Eric,

Phillip mentioned that this situation might happen if one leaves their passport at the consulate, and recommended that people do not. Now I can see why he stated that opinion and it appears to be good advice.  :) >Jim

yes, I never intended to leave a passport in the first place anyway..

Nor do I intend to xpress mail it.... and have it sit in their mail room a few days. Or get lost on its way to GZ, or get "misplaced" or get lost/delayed on the way back..etc.....Murphy's lurking..

I discussed a plan with Charlotte for Shanghai folks to avoid this and the high cost of actually flying there.

Eric,

I read your posts and think your idea is excellent. Has anyone contacted GZ to see if your idea is feasible there? It would save folks a lot of RMB. :)   >Jim

not yet, but I will

Make sense on the math too.. follow me..

Average SHA-CAN r/t ticket USD 450, maybe a bit less but not much

/ ( assume) 6 people getting passports = USD 75 per passport

Hopefully, the person going won't have to overnight..

DHL/ Fedex or whatever probably will cost USD 60 anyway..You get the piece of mind for 15 ( roundtrip same day ) or 25 bucks ( with one night hotel ) bucks more per passport. 30 dollars top with incidentals.

Let's see ..

Pick-up/ Drop-off at GZ : option a/ 450+ $ option b/ 100 $ or so

darn.. hard decision...

Mailing to GZ $ 60 or so and you get Murphy to ride along with the enveloppes !

If my fiancee wants to go , I'll even cover the 50 RMB airport charge myself..LOL..
