Beermann
I've read many posts here that when the files are sent from NVC to GUZ that they are held up in Customs for like a month or so...maybe I read that wrong... But my case was sent from NVC on the 6th and it arrived in Guangzhou today, the 9th. And it says that it is at the DHL facility, assumably ready to go out for delivery. Maybe what I read was that it will sit at the DHL facility for a month before delivered... Can somebody please clarify this for me? Thank you! Link to comment
tenfootalbino
That is exactly what it means. I had the same problem i thought it was sent to the consulate, but in fact it was sitting in DHL for a month until it was sent. Link to comment
Homeprincess
We are in the same boat(or flight?) Please allow me to share some of my boring work I am engaged in this afternoon(I think only nuts will do this). Below is all the cases in the reference category of I-730, from August 4,2005 to Sep.9, 2005. My conclusion is: Since August,4, only 8 out of 23 or 35 pct of cases(I-730) from NVC have cleared the customs, most of which are either below 4 lbs or unidentified with their weight. I will check the month of July for a "history review" later on if I still remain this feverish. So, prepare a month or so for the package to go through GUZ customs. 75543743217554657994755470812575550897327556023834755647946475569313367557030353755724688575576940457557942044755794287375588741207558996760755988260675599502157560270244756043520175609026247561502944756192777475625002717562500573 Link to comment

ckhang
I checked with DHL's website and 1 package was delivered to GUZ on 9/6/2005 for the 8/25/2005 shipment package from NVC. I was told by NVC live person that my package was mailed on 8/25. I hope this package is mine. So frustrating when you do not know whose pacakage it is. Link to comment

Thank you!152601[/snapback]Supposedly it goes through customs from the DHL facility. The one month "clearance" started about a year and a half ago and it is thought that the consulate has DHL hold them because they were so swamped. Maybe it will change back to what it was with a "New More Efficient Consulate" The smaller, quicker packages are usually Diplomatic Pouches not containing Visa files Visa file packages are the 20-30 pound ones Link to comment
goneflying2000
Also it is not shipped the day that the NVC says it is. The date that they give you is the date thet it was sent to the shipping dept and it is usually 1 or 2 days after that before it is picked up by DHL. Link to comment
LeeFisher3
The interesting thing about the documents awaiting customs clearance is that these documents travel under a Diplomatic Seal and customs is only a formality. The only thing required for them to clear customs is for the consulate to sign for them, otherwise they are awaiting customs clearance. It is just a nice way for the consulate to say they haven't received them and misdirect the reason for this delay on China's customs service instead of telling us they have not picked them up from customs for whatever reason. cosmiclobster
Your visa petitions sit in limbo for a while after being delivered to a place close to the consulate (used to be the White Swan Hotel - don't know if they will change this with the move of part of the consulate). GZ picks up a van full of petitions at one time, about once a month. There were pictures of several large boxes of petitions being unloaded from a van to the consulate posted by Moon Carol Cafe several months back. When there are enough boxes to fill the van, they will be delivered to the consulate and the DHL tracking numbers will finally show that they have passed customs clearance and have been delivered. They should show as being entered in the GZ computer and the DOS computer within a week or two of the date of the DHL "delivery".Hope this helps! Link to comment
