Well you can sort of see it from space. I did a search for Satellite photography of China on the NASA website. It pulled up some really incredible photos. It pulled up about 35 in all, here's my top 3. Hope you have broadband, some of these baby's are about 9M.

Shenyang, China is featured in this image photographed by an Expedition 10 crewmember on the International Space Station (ISS). The city of Shenyang is China’s sixth largest city with a population of over 4 million residents in the urban core.

This picture, apparently the first verifiable photo showing the Great Wall of China from low earth orbit, was taken by International Space Station Commander Leroy Chiao. Chiao used a digital still camera with a 400mm lens when he snapped the photo...

Photographed through the Space Shuttle Endeavour's flight deck windows, this 70mm frame shows a small section of China's Yellow River (Huang Ho) highlighted by sunglint reflection off the surface of the water.

In this pic you can clearly see Taiwan and Hianan, even GZ.

(Is that a VO burning my paperwork outside the back door? I think I see my name on the paperwork.) - This pic is 5M.

very nice shots!!

i use google earth and have checked out china sat shots but all they have is forbidden city, tiananmen square and a few other well know places....

Are you using the latest? The resolution in Beihai is pretty good. Not quite good enough to make out houses, but good enough to locate Yue's neighborhood. I though they had China mostly covered. Here I can see my neighbor's car.

Cool but with http://earth.google.com I could see the block my SO lives on. For the U.S. you can get as close as the house.
