Is IR-1 visa a multiple re-entry visa?

Recommended Posts

Hi, everyone. My wife got her IR-1 visa at the end of May, and this visa is

valid until November. Does anyone know if my wife can use this visa for

the purpose of re-entry to the U.S. before she has the Green card in hand?

She needs to go back to Beijing to take a teacher's certificate test

(which certifies her to teach foreign students Chinese, and HSK classes)

before October.

(oh, by the way, how long will it take until the Green card can be issued

and sent to us? )

Thank you.

(so excitedly expecting the reunion with my sweet heart    )

It appears if the visa has expiration date in november, that you have free will to travel until then.......

Don't confuse the visa's expiration date with the length of stay. Think of the expiration date as the "use before" date you see on food products. Use the visa to gain extry before the expiration date or toss it.

The permitted length of stay is usually determined at the POE by the IO and is generally shown on the I-94.

For Jingwen's K-1, I think the expiration date was 6 months from the date of issue. This meant she had to use the visa within 6 months to gain entry into the US. Her authorized length of stay as shown on her I-94 was 90 days, starting from the date she entered the States.
