  1. Hello all, I am writing on behalf of my husband, a Chinese citizen. Here is a brief rundown of our most pressing question: “I got my 2- year conditional permanent resident card after coming to live in the US with my wife in 2017. I filed an I-751 to remove the conditions on my permanent residency in April 2019, and received an I-797 extension on my 2- year card until October 2020. Due to a family emergency, I had to come back to China in August 2020. The issue is now resolved and I would like to go back to my wife where we live in California. My USCIS status is awaiting interview for removal of conditional status, my receipt number is recognized by the USCIS help line when I call in to check on my status. I need to know if there are any additional documents I need to travel back to the US. Will they stop me from entering the United States with my current paperwork (an expired two year green card and an expired I-797, but which is still valid according to the USCIS until they judge my case)? I didn’t have time to file for a reentry permit when I left, so is my only option to go through the process to get a returning resident visa?” thank very much to anyone who might have some insight!!
  2. Thank you both so much! The thing is, they plan to support themselves, and have much more than enough means to do so, as well as ample proof of that (which they brought to their interview). Neither I nor my husband make very much, certainly not enough to support them... Hoping that this might be a case of just seeing how many hoops they will jump through...
  3. Hi all, First, thanks again to all those that helped my husband and I go through the green card process last year. Now, we're trying to get B2 tourist visas for his parents to come visit us. We got all the paperwork together that was listed on the ustraveldocs.com site, but they were rejected for a visa at the interview on Sept. 1 in Shenyang. The interviewer asked for a proof of my husband's employment in the US, which they didn't have. They did have extensive white book documentation of the business, houses, and car that they own, plus copies of our ID's, husband's green card, and our marriage certificate. They didn't have the following (this is a list put together by an agency they visited after the interview): 邀请函(抵美日期是11月15号。住45天,主题是预计婚礼在感恩节期间举行,邀请父母参加婚礼,顺便带父母过圣诞节) 工作证明 身份证明 税单 存款证明 英国留学毕业证 去韩国留学的毕业证 爱人的毕业证 The United States Invitation letter (arrive date is November 15th. 45 days, is expected to the ceremony will be held during the Thanksgiving holiday to invite parents to the wedding, bringing his parents for Christmas) Work certificate Proof of identity bill Deposit certificate British study abroad graduation card Go to South Korea to study abroad graduation card Lover's diploma So, my question is, for their second interview, is there anything else that might be indispensable, that is not on this list? Another question, what's the proper format for a "work certificate"? Last question, should I (the US citizen spouse) prepare versions of these documents as well (such as proof of employment, etc)? Thank you for reading such a long post!! Ksenia
  4. OK, found the answer here, haha: http://candleforlove.com/forums/topic/48588-police-report-from-home-town-or-current-location-or-both/?hl=%2Bpolice+%2Breport This forum is amazing, seriously. Thank God for all you great people sharing your experience! Our interview is next Wednesday, and if we pass, I'll post a writeup, too, in case it can help
  5. I just found the appointment email on UStraveldocs.com, so that question is answered. Also, just read that the hukou is not necessary at the interview (http://candleforlove.com/forums/topic/47726-ir-1-interview-final-checklist-and-questions/). Still hope to get some input on the police certificate question! Thanks!
  6. Hi Sorry if this topic has been addressed before! Does the applicant need to bring a white book copy of his family hukou to the GUZ interview? And, Does the applicant need police record check certificates for each city he has lived in in China? Or just from his hometown? We have a white book translated official certificate that was issued for him in his home city, but he's also lived in 3 other cities in China - does he need anything from there? He's been living in Shanghai for the last 2 years, does he need one from here? (please God, no) Our Interview is in one week... Last Question: We didn't get an email confirming our interview time, but we have a screenshot of the confirmation page after we made the appointment on the website...can we just print this out?? Or should we print something from UStraveldocs.com? Thanks guys!
  7. Expedite the returns being completed and sent back to me so that I have them for our visa interview on Nov. 16. I know I can file individually with the IRS, but then I'll most likely have to wait 6 weeks for the returns to be processed, right?...Or do I just need to file and then bring those forms?? Without needing some reply or tax transcript from the IRS??? (so hopeful right now) I emailed a tax preparer about doing them for me and getting the tax transcripts in two weeks, and he quoted me $1550 Again - just fill out the returns and COPY them - you're done! Oh, yeah - you can also MAIL them while you're at it. The transcripts are COMPLETELY unnecessary (we and other web sites have WAY oversold the benefit of ordering those over simply submitting copies of your return). If you need a tax preparer, yes, it may take a day or two (or three), but I wouldn't expect they're very busy this time of year. The purpose of the I-864 is NOT to prove that you've paid your taxes. but to DOCUMENT your income. This is like the best news I've gotten all month, thank you so much!!!!
  8. Thanks for your reply! Yes, of course we need to have a joint sponsor, which my grandpa is happy to help out with. Since the picture in my last message didn't upload, I'll just post a copy of the email response to the same question (see above) from a tax professional, in case it could be helpful to others in the future: Jay Freeborne <jfreeborne@watax.com>Tok_nemts... Today at 7:57 AMHi Ksenia Thanks for your email below. You would file all 4 returns to be safe (although 2012 would be maybe not necessary). (Of course not, we only need 3 years for the I-864.) Most likely all of your income would be excluded from taxes (although there could be a Social Security tax). Filing returns is NOT an audit. So you would do your best to compile your supporting info BUT you wouldn’t be required to submit it. (THIS is what I really wanted to know!) WATAX would be prepare these 4 returns for you (and research your IRS record) for a flat fee of $1550.00 within your time frame. (Haha, of course you would, for $1550 > ) ACH/CC forms are attached along with form 2848 so we can research your IRS record. OK? (Thanks for that, now I'll go do it myself ) Jay Freeborne, E.A. 10. Hello, I am an American citizen who has been living abroad for the past 5 years. I haven't filed any taxes since I left the States, because I mistakenly thought I didn't need to. Now I am applying for a CR-1 immigrant visa for my Chinese husband, and I know I have to supply my tax returns for the past 3 years. So, I have two questions. 1. Can I back-file my taxes without any W-2's? I have been working for small English schools and agencies in Japan, Russia, and China, as well as studying, so I doubt that they will have any tax information on record, let alone in English. (I also haven't been making much, about $15,000 per year max). 2. Is there any way to expedite the tax return procedure? Our visa appointment is in 3 weeks from today. If possible, I would like to have the returns by Nov. 4, and will pay extra if necessary, as it looks like my husband's green card approval depends on these tax returns. Should I hire a tax service to help me with this? If yes, do you guys have any good recommendations? Your replies will be greatly greatly appreciated! Thank you!! Ksenia and Dongguan
  11. Hello all! Very important and puzzling questions we've got here... My husband is a Chinese citizen, and I am a US citizen. We are applying for a CR-1 visa for him, and the immigrant visa instructions for the police certificates say (the bold refers to the areas which I don't completely understand): Each applicant aged 16 years or older must submit a police certificate from (1) the police authorities of each locality of the country of the applicant’s nationality, (2) country of residence at the time of visa application if the applicant has resided there for at least 6 months, (3) from all other countries where the applicant has resided for at least 12 months, and (4) from the police authorities of any place where the applicant has been arrested for any reason, regardless of how long he or she lived there... Police certificates must cover the entire period of the applicant’s residence in any area. A certificate issued by the police authorities where applicants now reside must be of recent date when presented to the consular officer... Check the reciprocity schedule at http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country.htmlfor police certificate requirements for various countries. Question 1 (refer to the first and third bold areas): My husband has lived in four cities in China (his home country) since the age of 16. Does he need to get a police report for each place he has lived? Question(s) 2: My husband has lived in the UK and South Korea for over 12 months. Does he have to get a police certificate from the bureaus in the cities in which he lived in the UK and South Korea? And how can he do that from China? Can he go to their embassies in Shanghai and request the police reports there? Question 3: The reciprocity schedule website states it is listing information for non-immigrant visas...so why is this information included in the immigrant visa information packet?!
