  1. Thank you Dnoblett, for the quick response. I am still using my last name( SSN, Driver's License, everything), and haven't changed it to my married name. I remembered in the forum that it is easier to change my last name to my married name during the 10 year green card process, now I'm confused? Should I change my local identifications first before filing or I can do it when filing I-751? Please help me understand, thank you so much.

  2. Hello everyone, I know it has been quite a while since I have been online. Just finished my school and we are expecting a baby girl this holiday 😝. We are so excited and blessed.

I do have a few questions about my status and needs all your help. I have a 2-year green card, I arrived here in the US last year of April 2nd. I know that I need to process for my 10-year green card 90 days before my 2nd anniversary. So my questions are as follows:

    1. What type of visa should I file?

    2. What are the documents needed?

    3. Should we include our baby in the papers and how?

    4. And lastly, how do I change my last name to my married name? It is included in the form or do I need to file separate?

I really need your help and assistance everyone. Thank you so much!

    Regards,

    Mrs. Gravestey

  5. I asked my husband about this and we both agreed that hugging is normal here (US) and even in my country, Philippines. But it varies on different cultures though. Some countries, husbands or boyfriends get disrespected if their women hug other men. If you are here in the US, this is their way of greeting friends and family. But when you are in doubt, just do handshake.

  6. Yep, the conditions on a conditional card is that you are still in a marital relationship to your spouse after two years of residency, no restrictions on international travel.

My wife and I traveled to Canada perhaps twelve times while she had the conditional card, as well as she traveled home for 2 months.

Yes make sure airline tickets match passport name.

    Dan,

Yes, everything is on the same name. Did your wife need a visa to Canada or the conditional green card was enough? Thank you

  7.

Hi guys, how you all doing? As of me, quite settled now and has been driving since last May. I just have a question, i have an emergency back in the Philippines and i need to go home at least 2 weeks, will my 2 year green card/Conditional permanent residence be ok upon returning? In my case as a conditional permanent green card holder, am i allowed to travel abroad? Thank you all.

No problem. It's no different than a permanent green card. It just expires sooner. Just make sure you book airline tickets in the same name your passport shows.

    Warpedbored,

Thank you, yes, names are all the same.

  9.

I am hesitated to change my name after marriage. The reason is that:

My AOS application is on the process for 3 months, including I-485, I-765 (EAD) and I-131 (AP). If I change right now, I have to notify USCIS to name change and that will cost me another $450 for filing fee and biometric if my research is right. And I have to change my SSN card name although it is free. And I am going back to China this October with AP. Does it effect my trip?

Also, I wonder if I change my name, does it effect my Chinese ID card, banking account, insurance etc in China?

Fortunatelly I have not opened account or get employed by any company at the moment. So it is seemed for me only need to change the name on SSN card, green card, EAD and AP.

If I decided to change my name, shall I take my husband's name as my last name and keep my last name as middle name? Or just take his last name as my last name without middle name? Which one is more common practise?

Could you guys share me your experience?

    Thanks again!

You've already filed AOS but since you haven't had an interview yet you may be able to make an info pass appointment and change it that way. Otherwise you'll have to legally change your name in court, file an I-90 and pay a $450.00 fee. Many don't have an AOS interview anymore but when my wife and I went through the process it was standard practice. At our interview the IO told us my wife couldn't use her family name as a middle name she could only use her last name, my last name or a hyphenated name ie Smith-Jones. We opted for my last name but when the green card came it was just how we wanted it in the first place. Her family name as middle name and my last name.

Mrs Gravestey, since you came on a CR-1 visa you won't have the option of an infopass appointment. You would have to change your name legally in court and file an I-90 or wait until you remove conditions on your green card.

Warpedbored: my green card is still arriving, if i decided to change name after green card arrives, will they issue a new green card with new name or as it is? Thank you for the help.

  10.

So that means I can change my SSN name while keep my old name on conditional green card, EAD and AP until removal of conditions, right?

In this case, does SSN card conflict with EAD if I find a job in the future?

I would keep name at SSA matching what USCIS has, and only change at SSA after name has been changed with USCIS. Best to keep all records in the USA consistent.

Dan, i wanna change my name to my married name, is it ok to change now? And if it is, what do we do? Thanks again as always...

  11. A SSN card should arrive in the mail a few weeks after arrival if you checked the box on the DS-230, if not then visit the SSA office and order one. If at any time in the past you had an SSN, the number will be the same, and if you lost it, you can order a replacement at SSA.

I have a SSN already from before and still have it. Thanks

  12.

    1. Get an SSN, virtually all states require SSN before issuing a learner's permit.
    2. Have evidence of lawful presence, your passport with I-551 notation should serve this, however if they don't like they will want to see a green-card.
    3. Study for a written test to get the permit.
    4. Practice driving with the learner's permit, with your spouse as a passenger.
    5. Take a road test to get your license

Also note: If and when you visit the DMV, if they ask you if you want to register to vote, you are NOT a US citizen, so as such should decline that, until if and when you naturalize and become a US Citizen.

Thank you for the quick response Dan. I will show this to my husband later...

  13. Hi all,

I am now here in Michigan and would like to start with my driving course and take note i am just a beginner. What steps should i must do or prepare to apply driving? PLeaseeee share any ideas guys and i appreciate in advance any help i could get, thank you.

  14. Another issue that has come up. My stepdaughters guangzhou case number does not match the number in visa inside the passport. Is this going to be a problem later?

My wife's numbers match up. My daughters A- number matches but not the case number.

What do mean didnt match up, like totally different numbers or there were additional numbers?

  15. I don't think we've heard back from anyone who's had to pay the new green card fee. Would you let us know how that goes? I expect it'll be fairly trouble-free, although it can't be fun to have to part with the extra money.

Hi Randy, yes you have to pay $165 for the USCIS Immigration Visa Processing Fee (instructions attached to the visa packet) after receiving the visa and before entering the United States. It started sometime in February this year, and should be paid online,

  16. Is not same as A# or SSN the number you are referring to is DOS case number not sure what the appended Nebraska is about.

USCIS will assign A# when ther generate green card after arriving in the states, and you already have SSN it never changes.

I am talking about the immigrant visa IV Case Number attached on my passport that have 2 added numbers, so it is normal?....and in the paper attached to the packet there is the ''Immigrant Data Summary'' below it says A-Number : A****** , same as urs too? Thank you

  17. 1 not sure of extra numbers

2 you will need to pay a fee online to USCIS to get them to produce a 2 year green card. POE will explain this.

3 no AOS removal of conditions comes 2 years after arrival in the states, unless you reach two years of marriage before using the visa to come to the states, if that happens you get a 10 year card with no conditions to remove. SSN does not change, however once have green card visit SSA office and update them on immigration status.

4 should have changed name before. To do it now will involve added paperwork and fees, best to do and them remove conditions using married name.

5 yes you can pay the fee now or after entry to get green card

    for example:

case number: GZO2*********01.....01 are the 2 numbers, are urs the same? or maybe because i have an SSN already or alien number?

  18. Fortunately, got my visa in 2 days. Now i have new set of questions...hehehe...the never ending question...

    1. My case number in the visa seems like had 2 additional numbers in the end, is it normal?

    2. Since i have already SSN, what should i do after POE?

    3. When to apply Adjustment of Status or Removal of Conditions? (confused, sorry if my question is wrong)

    4. When to Change my Name?

    5. Should i pay the Immigrant fee before flying to the US?

Any additional Infos are very much appreciated...

AGAIN, THANK YOU ALL!!!! FROM US THE GRAVES!!!

  19. Visas approved all went well. Thanks so much for all the help. The near endless seas of paperwork has come to an end. At least for now. We are a very happy family right now. :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:
