  1. I need to go to the San Francisco Chinese Consulate for my wife's passport renewal. Few questions 1) If her passport expires after 8 or 9 months, will they let renew. Does it need to be 6 months or less? 2) Does anyone happen to know which form she needs to fill out? One of these from http://sanfrancisco.china-consulate.org/ch...54559.htm#three Èý¡¢Öйú»¤ÕÕ¡¢ÂÃÐÐÖ¤¼þ/Chinese Passport and Travel Documents ÖлªÈËÃñ¹²ºÍ¹ú»¤ÕÕ/ ÂÃÐÐÖ¤/ »Ø¹úÖ¤Ã÷ÉêÇë±í ̨Íå¾ÓÃñÀ´Íù´ó½ͨÐÐÖ¤Ò»´ÎÈë³ö¾³Ç©×¢ÉêÇë±í Òò¹«»¤ÕÕ»»·¢Òò˽»¤ÕÕÉêÇ뱨¸æ »¤ÕÕÒÅʧ±¨¸æ Thanks
  2. Hi, I'm sure a lot of you have added your spouse to your house title. Anyone have any experience doing this, specifically in Bay Area California, Alameda County? Did you have to pay any transfer tax? I have been told there is no transfer tax. But I have also been told there is transfer tax, and to be exempt it must be done as a gift. Is anyone aware of the tax implications when it is a gift? Thanks, Kal
  3. Does this mean she can not go to any other US Consulate? Like if Guangzhou serves her hometown , can she goto the Hong Kong US Consulate? I assume she can go to any consulate - check with them to be sure. OK so i called the consulate, and they basically told me they will serve any nationality. So you actually don't need a green card if I understood correctly. They can notarize documents if it used for some purpose in the United States. but I have another question that is sort of off topic.. If my wife wanted to travel to HK, could she go there using her green card or would she still need a HK visa in her chinese passport?

  5. I believe US-Citizen's Services at the consulate also covers Lawful Permanent Residents, and services like notary is available to LPR's http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/no...ces_260608.html (The Guangzhou consulate Notary) Note the Embassy is located in Beijing, there are US consulates located in other cities. http://beijing.usembassy-china.org.cn/acs_notary.html (for the Embassy Notary) The Embassy has an email address that you can ask them this quiestion: http://beijing.usembassy-china.org.cn/service.html Moving this post. Although the American Citizen's Services will usually require an American passport to get in the consulate. You don't say why or what it is that needs to be notarized. I'm not really sure yet. But i'm trying to buy a house in California, but my wife is currently not here and won't be back till long after close of escrow. I'm trying to put her on the title. I was told she may need to sign something in front of a notary at a US consulate since she is not here. The problem is if green card holders aren't allowed inside American Citizen Service for notary services, then that would be a problem.
  6. Hi, I'm not sure if this is the proper place to ask, but is it possible for someone with a green card to enter into the US embassy and get some documents notarized? Thanks, Kal
  7. When you get there, then you give him a deposit and you sign some paper. But i'm not really sure how he calculates it.
  8. Here is my input.. 1)Living Conditions... Yes the rooms are dirty. Well the one I stayed in was. It had cob webs all the place, seems like someone had not lived there in awhile. The air conditioner didn't really work either. It turned off randomly. As you can imagine, it was hard sleeping at night because it was hot and I had to constantly turn the air conditioner back on. The kitchen looked kind of dirty also. It was like a storage room. It had few extra bed matresses laying there, and some other things. I checked one of the kitchen cabinet doors and as I opened it the whole door just popped out. The hinges weren't even connected. The same about the bedroom closet. Couldn't really use the bedroom closet because there's a bunch of other things stuffed in there. I saw another room which was much nicer compared to what I lived in. But even the person there complained it wasn't good. But to me it was much nicer than the room they gave us. Clean looking, spacious, and the air conditioner worked. 2) Helpfulness of the Yangs.. To be honest, I didn't really talk to them at all. So I didn't ask for help for anything because my fiance and I knew what to do. When we first met Mr. Yang after getting of the bus, my first impression was that he didn't seem so nice. He had a stern look on his face. No smile or anything. But he offered to help drag the lugguage. He took us to his office, and I saw a few others there on his computer. He told my fiance they were also members of CFL. Then he took us to our room, and quickly took off. On the day of the interview, we were going to check out of the room. Also the security guard told us we had better leave because police were going around checking the rooms. Of course Mrs. Yang calls us to tell us not to open the door and shut off the TV because police maybe checking. Anyway, on that day we were not in the room at all, we were at the interview for half the day. So when we decided to leave after the interview, Mrs. Yang decided to charge us for half day usage. She also told us that our room actually cost 280 RMB/night, when we were quoted 220RMB. Huh..are you kidding me? Did she expect us to drag our lugguage around in the US consulate? Besides that, it was raining cats and dogs that whole day! We ended up paying her anyway to avoid arguing, but I don't think thats quite fair. At least in a real hotel you could check out and ask to leave your lugguage safely with the concierge. You have to remember this is a business they are running. They are here to make money. They even charge you $1 RMB per paper for using their printer. The part of their business is that they know the procedure and can assist you, otherwise i'm sure you wouldnt have called them. If you don't mind sub standard room conditions and are trying to save money then you could try to stay there. Otherwise, i suggest a nice hotel.
  9. If anyone is still wondering, i was told by a employee in the consulate to wait at the 4th floor. Then later he verified with his colleagues and told me to wait at the 1st floor outside the consulate. Actually, you dont have to do any of that. You just walk to the 5th floor yourself and line up at window 18 or whatever window they'll use. At 2:00 they start giving out numbers and a paper to write your questions. It is really not obvious what I was standing in line for unless you ask the security guard and even they are unclear. There are no signs stating that it was for ACH.
  10. just fyi, when your fiance goes to pick up her medical check results , they'll rip out only the necessary pages from the whitebook. The chinese text and the translation. There are two other pages which state "the English translation is in conformity with the original Chinese text..". They won't include those in the sealed medical result package.
  11. Also, make sure you have the latest tax return possible. I have read that some people have gotten a blue slip because they didnt have the latest ones. For example, you sent your fiance 2006-2004 tax returns before April 2008. You file your 2007 tax in april 2008. Your fiance goes to the interview sometime after april 2008, they may ask you where is the 2007 tax return. If you don't have it the VO may give you a blue slip.
  12. WenDylan: Thanks Rob & Jin : Yes, i read the threads, but i couldnt find the information i wanted. Maybe i'm not searching thoroughly enough. But if you know the exact thread , please help me =) Sorry if i sounded like i was trying to get something free without doing the work. The confusion is someone told me that I would need to wait outside the consulate in a line and they would bring us in...hence the question i asked in my post. Tsap sieu thread mentions that he just went up the 5th floor. His post was in 2007, so i'm just trying to find out if they've changed procedures or anything.
  13. Hi, I am wondernig what is the procedure to attend ACH? Do I just head straight to the 5th floor w/ my passport? And once on the 5th floor, will it be easy to find that location where ACH is held? Or is there a line that forms outside of the consulate and they bring us in? Thanks, Kalexe
  14. Dear Mr. Yang, I am trying to reserve a room at one of your apartments, but so far I have been unsucessful in contacting you. I have tried your email, QQ, both cell phone numbers, and the office number. Either no one has picked up or given any reply. The information was obtained from http://www.yangjiahua.com/ Is there a number I can reach you at? Thanks Kalexe
