  1. Hi kdavid3, thanks for your detailed post! I'm finding it very helpful in the preparation of my own application. I don't see where you've attached your cover letter. Could you please add it?
  2. When filling out the g-325a and i-130 should my wife be using her English name (with my last name) as the "Name" and putting her Chinese name in "Other names used" or should it be the other way around?
  3. Great, thanks for your replies! We will go with her being totally honest and I'll make sure she has a folder with itinerary, invitation letters, etc just to be extra safe. We won't bring anything that could be remotely construed as her trying to immigrate that's for sure. I just can't handle the thought of her finally being able to make this trip with me and then getting stopped at customs...
  4. Recently my fiance was able to successfully get a B2 tourism visa to go back to the United States with me and spend Christmas/New Years with my family. Major hurdle one: complete! Now I've begun worrying about what happens when we get off the plane in the United States. I've contacted my Consul General regarding any additional documentation we should bring beyond passport/visa/return ticket itinerary but I'm more concerned with the CBP interrogation and what she should tell them. I think we have two options: 1. She shouldn't mention our relationship unless explicitly asked (and not mention the engagement at all) and instead tell them that she is visiting friends for Christmas and New Years. 2. She can go ahead and tell them that she is traveling with me (still not mention engagement) to visit my family for the holidays (I will be on the plane with her but I assume I won't be able to be in line with her?). Additional info: We are both 25 years old. I've been living in China for 3 years. We don't plan on immigrating any time soon. We have the support of the Consul General however I doubt that will mean much to the CBP Officer. Thanks in advance!
  5. Why? What's the matter with not rushing into marriage? If we were to apply for a fiancee visa wouldn't that show them that we are now planning on marrying? And to answer your question, "He does want to marry me, but we want to make sure we do everything right and by the books so we can handle living and moving between China and the United States with as little trouble as possible."
  6. Thanks for your replies... dnoblett, Thanks for the timeframes. Regarding domicile I think I've got everything covered other than tax stuff. Only this year have I started earning enough money from my business to pay taxes on it so I'm guessing having no tax history would be a bad thing. Kyle, PMed you. chobagui, sounds like the polar opposite of Kyle's story. Unfortunately I think I'd be in a similar situation trying to go the visitor visa route
  7. Hey everyone, my girlfriend and I have been living together in China for over two years (I'm American). We originally met while I was here on a school trip and I came back half a year later after graduating. I have stayed by using a visa agent to convert my L to F visa and then continually extending it while I work on building my online business. We are soul mates and have literally been living side by side the entire two years other than my 1 month trip home for Christmas. We are both 25 and I am well aware that we are not financially capable of moving to the US right now. I would however like to eventually bring her to the US with me to meet my family and friends and I was wondering if this is feasible and if so, how long it would take? From what I understand there are essentially 3 ways to get someone to the US, or rather apply for a visa to the US... tourism, fiance, and marriage. I have done a bit of reading on these visa paths in the past and it seems that for my situation bringing her over as my fiance is the only real possibility. We're too young/financially unstable for marriage (in the eyes of an immigration official) and tourism I hear is extremely difficult for Chinese to go to the US on, especially if they aren't wealthy. I guess my question boils down to would it be possible for us to get a fiance visa in our current situation and what would the expected timeframe be? Thanks in advance for your help. I look forward to becoming a part of the great community you guys have built here!
