  1. Is anyone familiar with a ceremony or ritual that takes place so many days after a family member has passed that is two days in duration? I do not know the Chinese name for it but I was told it was a ceremony to "release the soul(s) from purgatory." Would anyone who is familiar with this ceremony please give me a more detailed explanation of what is involved? Thanks you!
  2. Well...she's home already. She cut her visit short. It is great to have her back with me! She said she had no problem entering the US at LAX.
  3. Thank you gentlemen! I sent an email to DHC but I don't really expect an answer. The card fit together nicely like a puzzle. I would tend to think you could still scan it in the machine? At least we have the better part of two months to figure this out.
  4. Hello everyone, I hope things are going well for all here! I have a question. My SO went back to China to visit family and to take care of a financial issue. I won't go into detail as to how it happened but her Green card (10 YR) is now in three separate pieces. It is not damaged otherwise. I laminated for her so it will stay together. She plans to come here at the end of April. Our question is: Will she have any difficulty re-entering the US? If so, what should we do? I know we have to replace it when she is back here...at the cost of I believe $370! But will she be able to re-enter the US with the card as it is. I appreciate your time. Thank you very much.
  5. The first time I was married in China it was in Nanjing. I was told I would be required to have a notorized or authenticated copy of my divorce papers to show I was legally single. I had this done in Florida where I live by an Apostille service. Well, in Nanjing they never even asked to see this. If I remember correctly they were only interested in my passport. This was in April of 2005. I plan to get married again...and in China again. The service that I used the first time just verified that now you have to physically go to a consulate in China and present your verified divorce papers to prove your single status. He said you have to go to Guangzhou to acomplish this. He said you can also get the affidavit in Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Shenhang, or Wuhan. Since I will marry in Chongqing I suppose I can do this in Chengdu. Does anyone know any further details about this?
  6. Mind you, I am looking for serious, real postive possible solutions to the following problem. Without going into detail I am in serious financial trouble! I believe the best way out is to is to refinance my home including some equity. With this I will be able to pay off all my credit card debt, my student loan and another loan. When I get overtime at work my situation is much better but I have not had any overtime in months. The problem is my wife refuses to sign the loan (required by Florida law). She is not doing this to be difficult...she has some real fear that she will be held responsible for the debt even though I have been told that is not true. Also she has only been here for four months and does not have a green card yet. She apparently has no idea how financial things work here in America. She has been told she is only signing to acknowledge that I have taken out this loan. What should I do? Again...please only serious suggestions.
  7. Just a quick story of why to not use a congressman.... I was totally unaware of this but when my wife went through customs at the Chicago Airport, the officer failed to return her I-94 form. At the advice of the business that helped me with the whole immigration process, I went to my congressman for help in getting her I-94 form. After the intial phone conversation I looked at my wife and said "this woman is completely incompetent!" But we went there anyway. To make the story short, after at least a month this woman called back and said it was OK, that all we needed was her passport. There was not even a mention of the I-94 form on the final letter sent to us! Go figure!
  8. Thanks for such a quick answer Randy! So we can count one her getting the permanent one then. That will be much better.
  9. My wife was recently talking to another Chinese woman who had come here on a K3 visa. After talking to her friend she thinks that depending on your circumstances she could be issued a "temporary" green card or a "permanent" green card. She thinks that since we will have been married for over two years when she goes to her interview that she will get a "permanent" green card. She would like to know what to expect before the interview. Does anyone have any idea about this?
