  1. Non-issue because the CO doesn't put as much weight on that aspect when it's a step child?
  2. You know, actually, I guess I have some other questions regarding this. (Lately, the questions are coming one after another! ) Let's say I get a job. I then have a few weeks of check stubs and a letter from the employer stating that I work there and what my wages are. Then I send in the I-864. How long do I need to keep that job (or stay employed) in order for the I-864 to be approved? I know that the processing time for the app is about three weeks (I have opted in for electronic processing). During that three weeks (give or take) should I assume it may be that the NVC will check to see whether I still have that job? Then let's say the I-864 application is approved. There is some period of time between that and the point at which my stepdaughter would get her interview date. Then she wouldbe waiting to go for her interview. At either of those other periods and on the day of the interview, do I need to be employed (whether at that job or another) and prepare to show that? If I change jobs do I need to fill out another I-864? Sorry for the twenty questions and thanks!
  3. I want to submit the I-864 with the NVC (along with the DS-230 for my stepdaughter's visa, unmarried, over 21) but my employment will be through a temp agency. I assume that as long as I have the check stubs and letter of employment(from the company; stating that I work there and make XX amount) that it should be accepatable? Is it seen in a bad light by the person processing the app? Thanks!
  4. In adding oneself to the sponsor's I-864, when it's then being processed by the NVC, which looks better to them? Would it be the status of "household member" or "joint sponsor"? My wife is the sponsor (a citizen applying for her unmarried daughter over 21). We have gotten the approval from NVC and paid for the DS-230 and I-864 but haven't sent them in yet (I have a previous post which had some general questions about that). I called NVC and they mentioned that I could do either but I'm wondering, which would carry more weight? I would guess 'joint sponsor", right? -Thanks!
  5. Thanks everyone for your responses and info, dnoblett, yes it was the I-864 request and visa # assignment from NVC. We got that on 10-15-10 and so I paid the fees for both apps right away. Yuehan 123, I see, so it's not from the approval date but from the date of any kind of contact? That's good to know. Thanks again everyone!
  6. Hi all, My wife (a citizen now) applied with an I-130 for her daughter (over 21, unmarried) who lives in Shenzhen. We recieved the approval (PDF via email)of the visa petition from the NVC last October 15th 2010. Is the deadline to send in the I-864 and DS-230 a year from that date? We have paid the fees but we are still getting all of our "life stuff" together so that when we send in the apps it shows the best possible situation for us. Also,it was my wife that applied but I would like to become the co-sponsor because I will have a job and she won't. What's the procedure for doing that? Is there a form that I need to send to the NVC? Do we fill out two I-864's? I'm also just about to start a new job. If I work for a temp service is that seen in a bad way? Does anyone know what the wait time is between sending in the apps and the interview date? Lastly, do I need to be working at that same job (or making the same wage) on the day my step-daughter goes for the interview? Or just until she gets the interview date? Thanks for your help!
