My SO had her interview in Sep. '09 and she received a blue slip for this very reason. I had already written about my previous marriage in my EOR letter, but they didn't even look at it before or during the interview. So I followed the blue slip instructions, wrote the letter, had it notarized, and sent to my SO the same day. This letter cost us another 2 months apart, but she eventually received the visa. Hello my fellow CFL members, I recently brought my fiance here to the US under a K-1 visa and now after she has time to adjust to being here in the great state of Indiana, we decided it's time to get married. I really didn't think there would be a problem obtaining a license here, but boy was I WRONG !! It appears that Indiana law requires each applicant to prove residency. OK now I'm really confused. How do you show proof of residency for someone who never resided in the US. Well here is what they told me at the county clerks office..... I need to produce an identification card showing with fiance's picture and address on it. It has to be issued from the Chinese government. OK So we have that and went back to the clerks office and now they are saying it has to be translated to english and notarized. Where the do they get these people who work for the government ? So I asked the clerk to show me where it states in the Indiana marriage law, that a K-1 Visa holder needs to show proof of residency before they can obtain a marriage license ? She could not tell me where it states this nor could she direct me to where I could find it. So now I turn to where I have always gotten reliable information throughout this whole process. To the wonderful people here at CFL. Has anyone here been married in Indiana ? If so, What if any documentation did you need to obtain your marriage license ? Thanks dnoblett for the quick reply. Unfortunately I pointed this out to the clerk, who still insisted that I have her ID translated and notarized. She even called out her supervisor who reiterated the same thing. I'm really disappointed with my county government and their lack of knowledge concerning K-1 visa holders.

Hello and Good afternoon CFL members, I hope this post finds everyone in good spirits and enjoying life to the fullest. I know I'm still floating on cloud 9 every since my Sweet Little Honey Bun told me she had the Visa in her hands. My fiance is in Shanghai, China right now and she will be flying here in 9 days. (I'm still in a state of SHOCK and disbelief ) I'm wondering if anyone here has a fiance that came through Chicago's O'Hare Airport as their POE. Where should I go to meet my fiance ? What can she expect once she leaves the plain ? Will their be anything special she will be required to do ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Good afternoon fellow CFL members, I know it's been a while since I posted any news on our petition. Please forgive me. I was literally beside myself when my fiance received the blue slip. I have to thank everyone here for their words of encouragement and support. You guys have been such a great help. Although I did not know this site existed when we first filed, I'm very glad I found it when I did. I have learned so much from reading post after post. I even went back a couple of years to previous post and found something that answered my question. This is by far the greatest place in the world for Visa resources. Thanks again CFL memebers. I have found my Visa home. I'm sure I will have a lot more questions as soon as my fiance are married and have started our life together here in the great state of Indiana.

Hello, Well I would like to add my opinion to this thread. On 9/3/09 my fiance had her interview in Guangzhou. I had read just about everything I could on CFL, and thought my kitchen sink was overfull with information. Notarized EOR letter, letter's from my family, Job, and every form of documentation I thought they would ask for. Well I was not prepared for the VO to ask for a letter explaining in detail my marriage and ultimate divorce. My lao po, was very calm and answered every question the VO asked her (in English ). She thought she would be getting an approval slip, but in fact the VO gave her a blue slip and told her she needed to get a notarized letter from me about me previous marriage and divorce. This is what the blue slip said word for word..... " Explain in detail your relationship(s) with your ex-spouse(s), explaining how you met; whether you filed an I-130 petition for this spouse; how long you lived together before separating or divorcing (give dates and locations); how many children you had with this ex-spouse and whom these children currently live with; and why you got divorced. " I have written the letter as they requested above and sent it back to the Consulate. 5 days and counting now. As always have the letter notarized. I hope this will help you and anyone else who are preparing for the interview. As stated in the previous post, they may not even ask for it but it's a good idea to be prepared if they do. I guess it really depends on the VO you get and what his or her mood is that day. Good Luck

Thank David, I did include my initial court filing as well as the final divorce decree with all the other paperwork my fiance had with her for the interview. Unfortunately the VO who conducted the interview didn't bother looking through the paperwork. My fiance was very nervous and didn't think to ask him look through the paperwork for this evidence. He was talking very fast the entire interview and didn't give her a good chance to answer. As to my letter to the Consulate, I included all that you stated except for my ex's address. But I did state that she moved out before I initially filed for divorce.

Hello, Well let me see if I can explain this better. My ex-wife (who is an American citizen by birth) and I started having problems in 2006. By the end of 2006 our marriage was over. I discovered she was with another man in May of 2007. She moved out and was living with this other man. I filed for divorce st the end of May 2007. We were legally separated in June of 2007. It was exactly 1 year later I met my fiance' (June of 2008). We developed a relationship over the next 6 months. My divorce was finalized Sep. of 2008. I went to China and met my fiance in Jan. of 2009. Then filed our I-129F in Mar. of 2009. My fiance' was well aware of every detail of my previous marriage and when my divorce was final. I really didn't think this was an issue until we got the blue slip on the interview day. I really hope this doesn't change anything. I did explain all this in the letter the VO requested. I just wish I had known of this requirement before the interview. I would have written the letter then. But we have to move past this and concentrate on what the outcome will be.

Hello all, Thanks for all the well wishes. Sorry it took me so long to reply. The interview almost went off without a hitch. Then the VO asked my SO about my divorce. She answered his question, but for some reason he wanted a notarized letter from me detailing my marriage. He wanted to know why we were divorced. I have not read anything like this happening to anyone else on any of the other threads. So needless to say she received a Blue Slip !!!! :so sad: I stayed up really late last night trying to calm my SO down. I explained to her that this is not that hard to overcome. We will not be together as soon as we had planned, but it will be soon. She finally stopped crying and I started to compose my letter to the VO. I will Xpress mail it to Shanghai today and hopefully this will only cause a 1 or two week delay. I will keep you all posted as to the outcome of our Blue slip. Again thank you all for your support. I was just as surprised to see another Hoosier here on CLF as well. Hope we can become efriends. God knows I will need more advice. Oh yeah !! She was only asked a few questions during the interview. Hello CFL members, I have never posted here before but today I thought I would give it a try. I have been hanging around this site since late May of this year, but didn't become a member until June. I have learned so much from this site. I can't begin to thank the person who decided to come up with such a wonderful web-site. I have kept to myself and just learned everything I can from the wonderful people here. Well as you can see from my timeline my SO has her interview Guangzhou today . I am on pins and needles right now !!! Unfortunately was unable to be there with her today, but I'm there in spirit and in her heart. Caixia is such a wonderful and surprisingly strong woman. I rushed home from work today so I could talk to her before she left the hotel (7am her time this morning) She was so positive and confident before she left. And I have been an absolute mess every since then. Her hotel is right there in the same building as the consulate. Caixia said she will come right back after the interview and tell me the results. I followed all the advice from other member's here on CFL and I'm very confident we were well prepared. I'm sure I'm not the only man who starts to second guess himself and wonder if I did everything right. I guess only time will tell right ? Well I hope that I will soon be able to join all the rest of the wonderful member's here and give something back to other's who are just starting their journey. I look forward to posting many, many more times here.
