  1. Guys I gotcha, but this Momma won't monitor. I very seldom have known a kid that does not need it routinely.

I always had to see the homework first. I check it. I seldom had to sit with them. I did other things. But I had to check, then the child is off to the next assignment before bed. It seems so simple rather than all the hell raising when a teacher sends and email or report. She expects the kid to be an adult, and sometimes one kid or the other is not. I at least got her to be more calm and love the girl a bit more.

A lot of managers in aerospace I know prefer the B average students rather than the A guys. Their Human Resources dept wants the strait A guys. They have trouble with the strait A grads - generally I am told. They don't work quite as hard and sometimes their creativity is lacking. I know this is not going to make any difference to anyone here, just sayin... .........It ain't the end of the world to make a B.

  2. Yeah, same here... but the shame is, the current wife won't help the step daughters, who I have committed to be Han first. (since they are) ---too much Liberal attitude, and independence for her, as a very traditional Chinese woman, so I have had to go outside of the house for their Chinese education--- both are Mandarin immersion, they are more than 1/2 way there, but could be a lot further along if they had Mandarin support at home. #2 is a straight 'A' student, but that doesn't motivate her to help.....

So my ex will not help her own daughter either. And she will not follow up and check homework, that it is done and accurate like I do with kids. And I make sure the finished corrected homework is in the backpack by seeing it with my eyes there, so it gets to school. This kid sometimes does it but never turns it in. Other times she just figures she knows the material and does not care about the little stuff or the grade. She will even tell the teachers that her mother cares about the grades, but she does not.

Over the years I learned that Momma did not turn in homework either as a child, and had the exact same attitude as her daughter, she does well on tests. But this is not even relevant to Momma. Oh really I think to myself. Gosh how I HATE the stupidity of Asians living only in the present, never considering that anything in the past is something to learn from, and maybe their kids are just like them, and not thinking much about the future. It just must be strait As and even though Lil One got a 94 on her math exam and will get an A that is not good enough for Momma. 94 is bad in Mommas eyes.

Momma wants me to bring Lil One to my house until June 18 or so, whenever this exam to see if she can move up one more year ind take algebra 2 in the 8th grade next year, since I have the ability to motivate the child to study and in a calm way, and we have fun and a peaceful life together too. Momma makes war and turmoil and the kid rebels. I really don't want to do it this time for other reasons I may post about later somewhere else, having to do with a cousin showing up from China and living with them now.

The thing is, this child has interests in plants, bugs, sea creatures, and etc, and she studies about this stuff on her own, when she can get away with it. Personally I would get her a microscope and still may for her birthday, and let her learn about things she is interested in and has a talent for. Her Mom NEVER sees it, never even observes, just follows the Chinese strict ass dogma slave driving nose in books crap all day every day. And there is no leeway, no listening to any other idea. Closed minded brick. Then there was the politics this kid was excellent at when down here in my school district, getting elected to student council. Leadership training. So many other fun things to learn other than extra math shoved down her throat 24-7.

    Is this enough rant? :D

  3. Lil One got an 80 on her English final in 7th grade. Momma is madder than hell. I didn't think too much of it = a "B".

Momma leaves for the store and Lil One says "Asian Failure". I was puzzled so she explains 80 is barely passing. If you get a 79 in China you FAIL. Ahh I finally understand now. :smartass:

I later tell Momma a "B" is passing and she is surprised. Momma is now mad at me and Lil One.

You know, a "B" is just fine with me. I wish the heck this woman was not so strict in such a mean way about ACHIEVEMENT. She will never be happy or satisfied. I hope Lil One's spirit isn't broken.

  4.

Good one Tsip, oops excuse me Tsap. You don't want to be a tsip.

Tsip, stap, pist, past...it's all the same to me Douggie. The last time I was serious was back in 19 and 62...that experience showed me that the main thing is that we all have a good time and laugh a lot as we make our way through this wacky life.

I found the name tsap seui inside the decoder ring I got out of a box of Extra Chocolate Kap'n Krunch cereal. After I woke up on the floor from the sugar buzz the cereal gave me, I looked inside my new decoder ring and saw the name. Didn't know what it meant, actually thought it was a coded message from David Bowie's Spyder Men on Mars, but figured it would be a good stage name on Candle.

    tsap seui

So there really is a tsap seui.

Oh, the T-sip thing is just how we're able to tell that Doug went to Texas A&M.

Well I MIGHT have gone to A&M but at the time it was an all male school. In fact I wanted to but never even applied. Same with AF Academy. All that has changed these days. I did date a gal who was in the first class to go to West Point once. She left after a year of that. Don't know what that accounts for.

Besides I hate burnt orange. Looks like something I can manufacture myself, you know, an earth tone.

PS: I suppose I ahould add why I didn't go to UT. It was my Sr year of HS and we went down for a HS drafting competition (mechanical drawing, and the others archetecture). We had a good teacher. I hung out this wondow and saw the most beautiful girl I may have ever seen walking to class... tall, lean, built right, long beautiful legs, long blonde or light brown hair to her waste, wearing hot pance (pants), halter top, and flip flops - period. Now that hippie chic doesn't know it but that wiped UT off my list. Beside I don't think I would have got lucky with her, so what was the point???  :D :D :P

  5. No we don't just let them starve. Heck 20 million fed during the depression. We have some fundamental problems where folks expect too much now days.

We have cards in TX now too. I see people getting things that used to be excluded. Of course right behind the food stamps is the beer and cigaretts that is paid for with CASH. Sorry Carl and others but it makes my blood boil if I think about it too much.

I have posted this before but will repeat.

Teddy & Bobby Kennedy made a little film in the Mississippi Delta back in the 60s talking to the poor and how little food they had & etc. They said they are going to do something about it.

I went to Mississippi every summer as a kid to stay with relatives. My cousin and I had fun as good as anyting striat out of a Mark Twain book. No one was rich, but I saw how the poor lived. One house had a bunch of kids of various ages running around bald naked. We put pennies on the RR track next to their house.

Now you see all the poor in town had jobs. They had money. It was all paid in cash and unreported to the Govt. No one starved. Then food stamps hit.

Accelerate years later. My cousin and I are married with one child in diapers each. I go to MS with wife to visit. We take our wives around to show them all the places where our summer adventures took us as kids. If I had not seen it with my own eyes I would not have believed it. I was beyond words when I saw all of this. Some have called me a liar about it. All the poor homes had large antenas on the roof and you could see the colored TV in the house. (We had a very small B&W at that early marriage time and an old Ford) All the little houses had a Buick or Cadillac in the drive way and usually an older one all wore out from the last time they bought a new car. And the house where we put pennies on the track, there was a Buick Electra on blocks off to the side and a new Cadillac in the driveway with colored TV in the house, and a new set of kids running around bald ass naked, I KID YOU NOT! Our ladies were astonished about this house.

SO, perhaps we need more Govt red tape to investigate how they spend the money they have? Maybe parents allow their kids to go hungry while they spend it on other things? Churches are no longer the social center of many communities anymore, so where are morals and responsibility taught? Any ideas guys?

I bet our Chinese counterparts get a bit appauled at how lazy and spoiled some folks really are and dislike their tax follars going to these folks after they work so hard, no???

  6. I thought I remember years ago that a couple of guys here tried to start importing products to sell. Maybe others have experience.

A friend of mine needed some industrial things he can't get in America easily. I contacted a friend who got me in the right direction and now her company wants her to try to sell things here as well, which is very heavy industrial stuff. This may happen and I seem to be right in the middle of it.

I notice some want make-up and things from China and Japan. I also like some things from there just not available here.

Anyway just lookiing for any advice or interest. If I do this I know I will somehow get a boxfull of back scrubber/wahers for taking a shower, and toilet seat covers so the old ladies bottom doesn't get cold in the night during winter. & etc.

  7. My wife, who is living with me in Pennsylvania, wants to open a bank account for her mother in China. She wants to be able to add a hundred dollars per month to the account and give access to the funds to her mother. Are there banks that operate in the United States and China, where an ATM card would work in both countries?

Bank of America and China Construction Bank have an agreement where the BofA ATM card can be used at a CCB ATM with no charge, and a competitive conversion rate.

This is good to know. Thanks Randy.

I have a friend trying to set up a business where he will buy batteries from China. I am trying to help with this through a friend of mine over there. We may pay this person and it sounds like a good method. Also wife wants to show some expenses in overseas activity on taxes.

  8. I suppose I could have married about 31 years younger, if I had taken more time, and since I am still friends with that lady, maybe I should have. Over the years I am finding she is purely honest and just a good friend.

As it is there is only a 15 year difference with my wife. We married and never had trouble in CR1. I had income better than most, which may have some bearing, and I front loaded the application with pictures that had captions. I showed as much family and famous places as possible in the pics. Not hard since she was in Beijing. We kept records of all chats and phone conversations, which I frontloaded. She took those kinds of records to the interview as well as pics. In her interview the pics is what were looked at. All her pic books. I think they made up their minds it was OK then just flipped through all the pics at interview to make sure. Maybe having gone over on business a few years before meeting her helped too.

Wish you the best. Make your luck happen.

  9. Special force, fire fight, got his body.

I had phone calls about DNA the past week - not sure what it meant.

Well I guess the story will straiten out.

Good show! Our troops have something to feel good about. I feel bad for other families losses. Maybe we can come home, or go elswhere.

    Folks outside cheering.

  10. Glad your OK Mick. Unbelievable what has happened. My relatives in Mississippi are all OK.

Presently hail is pounding my house. The Flex is outside. The trees got tore up here before the last storm. It was when the wind was coming through ahead of the storm. They put a new transformer in for our neighborhood so we have electricity through this.

After talkiing to a neighbor yesterday we wonder if a small twister came through. A line from from their house and their broken trees to my broken trees kind of look like it. If so just missed the corner of the house. I have too many trees to hurt the house anyway, I think, unless it dips strait down.

  11. Ive got tree limbs so thick I am driving on them.

One BIG tree has large branches just tore off. I didn't hear lightning, so a little drop of whirl you think???

Place is a mess outside. War zone yard. I need a forked scraper aparatus built for tractor to scrape all the limbs up after a storm. My back will be killing me this time.

  12. And some of us needed to mature and not want a place to sling chairs across the room. Yes but a place to compare notes would be nice. I guess we do it anyway.

My wifey-ex is doing better also because she FINALLY made some Chinese friends, and that has turned into a pyrimid business - but it is really good for her to meet with 30 Chinese couples at a whack.

Church helped when we were in Little Rock, helped her a lot. For one some basic morals needed to change. When you grow up in a society that is restrictive only through govt, well the folks can be like children doing some wrong things. They know but have never really been told. So she sees the examples of those in America and she sees why I get upset. It may be too late for us, but it has helped her raise the bar in her dealing with life. Of course then she gets introduced to cable and internet companies and the phone battles. She is learning our bad side to and who an dhow to trust.

  13. Interesting to hear about your wife's religion. Is she Christian?

No problem Charles. She is a Christian. When my wife was in college she said that one day while in the library she read about this man named Jesus and could not get him off her mind for many days. So she felt a compelling urge that she could not resist to learn more and more about him. When she had exhausted everything that she could find in the library and after she graduated from collage about 6 months later she got a job. Her company was visited by many foreign engineers from many countries, not only from the US. When the opportunity arouse in private she would inquire about this man named Jesus. The more that she found out the more she wanted to know. She eventually acquired a bible from one of them and started reading it on a regular basis. She never had a Chinese teacher or mentor as far as her learning about the bible. She never went to any of these illegal gatherings at other Chinese people's homes but she did gradually find girlfriends of hers that knew Jesus as well. Her mother and father does not believe in religion but highly respect her beliefs.

I remember the second time that I ever went to China to see her it was just before my birthday and I wanted to surprise her. She did not know that I was coming I had told her that I had to be out of town for a few days. I checked into the 21 Century Hotel, which is only about 100 yards from where she worked, and went to the lobby and waited for her to get off work and come out. When she came out I followed her out to the bus stop and got very close behind her and tapped her on the butt once with my finger them twice and then she turned around to bless me out and there I stood. The look on her face was priceless. When I tapped her on the butt with my finger some old Chinese lady standing very close by was giving me the mean eye. I thought she was going to sock me one.

Back to my original point. We went to my room and the very first thing that she said to me when we got inside was can we get on the foot of the bed and will you pray for us. Certainly we can. One of my promises to her after we decided to get married was would I take her to church whenever she wanted to go once we got to America. So far I have never refused to take her.

I have to tell one other thing here. When she turned around at the bus station with the surprised look on her face she said you don't know what you have done. I ask what do you mean? She said that I just bought a airplane ticket today and am suppose to leave tonight to America to see you for your birthday. Good thing that I did not delay in seeing her that afternoon.

I have another interesting story to tell about the experience of being invited to church once here in America and then being called back 20 minutes later and told that we would not be welcome as we were a mixed race couple. She was devastated. That's another story though.

    Larry

Touching story Larry. I didn't know. And to me this is how it is suppose to be for now. China is what it is. She found out anyway, and a good way. It is people like her that make the diference in a country. This kind of thing has happened to others and in other countries it is stories like this that soften the hearts of Govt leaders to allow a church.

Sorry for the mix couple experience in America though. We are Souther arn't we Anyway truth is truth regardless of what other do. Even a good person has weaknesses and rides the roller coaster of example. Some years I have been better than the way I have acted the past 5 an dthe way I generally post. Good example from your wife!!!
