  1. I have read many posts regarding this subject and just finished reviewing the pinned FAQ's about sending money, but I don't see anything recent (last 6 months) on the subject - so I am asking :happydance: . My wife's family would like to send some money from Guangdong prov.to her in the US. Could be anywhere from 70,000 to 250,000 RMB. Is there an easy way to wire or transfer money between China and US?

If they have the means to convert the RMB to US dollars would it be easier? What if they had access to business bank account in China? Any recent expierence sending/transferring money from China to US would be greatly appreciated <_< .

  2. Yes very annoying - I have contacted a company that will petition the court and place the ad in the local newspaper for a $80 fee which seems reasonable, but still very frustrating considering that we have done everything possible to ensure we have complied with all the laws already. And it is very strange that Homeland Security uses our certified translated marriage certificate as a basis for the CR-1 status, but the Social Security Office would not use it for a name change - go figure.

  3. I suppose she can use her married name, but for the medical insurance, bank accounts, dental insurance, eye insurance, drivers license, work, life insurance, taxes, school, etc. she can't really use her married name - because she doesn't have any legal documents with her married name. Or am I missing something. She does plan on becoming a USC and we will be lifting conditions in Jan. 2009, but the longer we wait, the more documents, ID's, beneficiary, etc will have to be changed. I was just hoping that there was a simple way to have her name changed... silly me I work for the government I ought to know better.

  4. My wife wants to take my family name as her family name - we were married in China so her name was not changed at that time. She received her 2 year conditional GC in her maiden name and when we went to Social Security office to get her SS# they would not allow her to change her name. We provided a certified english translated marriage certificate from China, but they said we needed to show a marriage certificate after she arrived in US (to support different name than GC) otherwise name would be same as GC. We have now received her social security card in her maiden name which again matches her GC and her passport.

My question is how to change name on social security card now. Do we have to have her name changed on her green card? Is this even possible? It seems like it would be a real hassle to change her name on the green card and possibly expensive. Maybe we could just go to the court house and get re-married here in California and then request a new SS card with name change based on marriage? Or?????

  5. My wife and daughter's interview was on Tuesday the 6th and we wanted to allow for any problems that might arise so they arrived in Guangzhou on the 29th of Jan. Went to Shamain Hospital on Tues the 30th at 10 am paid 2034 Yuan for wife and daughter including expidiate fee and were told that the results would be ready Thur the 1st of Feb. which is when she picked them up. She said that the hospital had a large number of medical exams to process and that was as fast as they could get them. Not sure if this was just an excuse or what, but I am glad we had plenty of time.

  6. Hi all!

My Mother has sent me all of her tax records and the I-864 form. HOWEVER...she did NOT send an I-864A from as well. Will she need to send this and, if so, does it need to be notarized? There seems to be conflicting information on this site and the US gov't site. Here is what it says on the uscis web site:

Should be filed with Form I-864, Affidavit of Support Under Section 213A of the Act.

The signatures on the I-864A must be notarized by a notary public or signed before an immigration or consular officer.

Please help! I need to get her forms sent to me right away. I'm hoping the I-864A is not needed as well. Thanks!

    Aaron

When I received my I-864 from NVC for CR-1 & CR-2 the package included "IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR SPONSORS READ THIS BEFORE SUBMITTING FORM I-864" This Notice provided instructions on who needed to file the I-864 or the I-864A and indicated that the signatures for both forms were not required to be notarized. Additionally, the cover letter from NVC indicated that only a "tax return from the most recent year" was required. I followed their instructions and they were accepted and approved with an un-notorized signature. You can send me a PM if you want a scanned copy of these instructions and cover letter.

  7. AR appears to be an additional step by all petitions... it might be that some don't report here about it. Either they are not calling during the time it's on AR or not calling at all.

This is another one of those times where tracking should not become an obsession (like the next step of shipment to consulate). It will normally take 7-20 days to pass through NVC. You'll get a letter in the mail (or an email) stating it's moved on to the consulate.

If you get nothing after three weeks, I'd be calling to check on it.

Listen to David's advise it is right on!

  8. As Duke says:

You will get different results by using the word Correspondence than with I-730, at least sometimes. I'm not sure what gets shipped under what reference but it would seem sometimes it's one and other times the other.

I tried it both ways. With I-730, it says, "arrived at DHL facility." By typing in correspondence, it says "shipment delivered and signed by STAMP." Who the hell is STAMP? :)

Ron I thought you new that STAMP is the GUZ signing Fairy :)

  9. our P-3 was received yesterday in Chongqing and will be mailed back to GUZ today (k-3)

this afternoon I called NVC to ask about our CR-1 status the recording states that our case was completed Dec.1 does this mean it was sent to GUZ if so how long does it take to be delivered and entered ? what are the chances of this catching up before the interview ?

    thanks

I think you have a pretty good chance for your CR1 catching up. They will send it within the next week or so and then give it approx. 10 weeks to make it to GUZ. I am not sure if you should have waited with sending back the P3 or not, just to make sure , maybe others know better.

I agree with Stacato - should be about 10 weeks so it should arrive in GUZ a little before your interview date. GOOD LUCK :)

  10. Apparently the "Elgible for interview" terminolgy is back in use at DOS. I just called and asked for status of our CR-1 and the woman indicated that they hadn't scheduled an interview date yet, but it was elgible for interview. I asked if that meant that GUZ had received the CR-1 case file and logged into computer and she said 'yes it had been received and logged in".

We sent back the P3 for the K-3 on 11/8/06 so hopefully we will be getting a P4 within a few weeks and it will be for the CR-1 :D

Rock and roll. Scott, You got the same reply that I got 'Eligible for interview'. However I think you will get an interview date faster then me because of your K3 privileges :)

Better get ready and good luck!

Thanks Stacato - Hopefully we both get an interview soon  Are you planning on being in GUZ for the interview?

  11. I thought that the new I-864's only required the most recent tax year, not the last 3. When I filed my I-864 in July, I called NVC and was told that this was correct - only one year ( but I sent 3 years just to be safe). So maybe you could just send 2005 taxes and make sure your SO has 3 years taxes at interview just in case.

We sent back the P3 for the K-3 on 11/8/06 so hopefully we will be getting a P4 within a few weeks and it will be for the CR-1 ;)

  13. My wife listed me as her agent as was suggested by many members here at CFL. Thus far it has proven to work well. All of the the documents and fee notices including the IV fee and the P3 packet will be sent to the agent of choice (me in my case). Since most of these forms where only in English and required the payment of fees and mailing to NVC in US it is much quicker to have it sent to a US address (as mailing to and from China can be very slow). Once the package is completed at NVC (thru P3) then it will be forwarded to GUZ. GUZ will send P4 to applicant in China. This process does not affect the I-129F K-3 process.

  14. Hey, guys, I tried the number 202-663-1225 for DOS 15 mins ago. Well, all I heard on this number was a lot of information about different things related to visas. Oh, man, those were just the automatic recorded information!!!

I NEED TO TALK TO SOME HUMAN BEING ON DOS REGARDING MY CASE!!!

Does anybody know how to get to talk to the real person in DOS?

    FREEASABIRD

Call the number and listen to all the different crap and then press "0" to talk to live person - sometimes when they transfer the call and put you on hold there will be no sound but don't hang up eventually you will get a live person.

  15. Maybe I'm getting too anxious, but what the H is going on? I checked again today and they still haven't picked up any packages after 10/16. Here we are December 4th. Is this normal?

I am not sure about the tracking via DHL as I never bothered with attempting that. I did call DOS a couple of times to ask about the status. I waited until it had been 50 days from date it was mailed from NVC. It didn't get logged in until 55 days which I think is about average. We got our P3 a week later. Good Luck.
