1. What a great post, I have been looking for this type info to understand the process.

Whether good or bad, right or wrong, effective or not, this is an enduring process on the couple, adding stress to both involved and perhaps on the relationship.

What is important is to understand the process, and give each other love and support while we wait for our great Uncle Sam to do what he think he needs to do. :D

  2. Has me a bit confused. The security checks usually come after the NOA2 and are done when it getsw to the NVC.  The standard answer at NVC is pretty much what you got. Are you sure that your pettion hasn't been aproved and passed on the the NVC?????

I have heard about these security checks and security clearances. What exactly are they? ;)

  3. Ameriken,

    Yep, she's a keeper, alright!

Thanks Dennis, I think we can say the same about all of the women in this thread. ;)

This is one topic I would like to see stay alive. While we all need to show care in meeting someone, our eyes cannot be blinded to the good that is out there. And reading these posts, you can see so much good ! :banned:

  4. There's been a lot of discussion lately about red flags and warning signals.  I would like to ask the opposite.  What were some of the possitive signals that your SO gave you that let you know that she was not a visa chaser?

Early on, while Instant Messaging with my SO, I had asked her to send her paperwork via Chinese UPS.  Four weeks had passed and I had not received her paperwork.  She told me that she was sorry that she had sent it via EMS (Chinese parcel post).  I jokingly said that 'Well, I guess you won't be here until 2006 now, because you sent it by slow boat from China.'  Her exact response was (I saved the IM):

meilady: Very sorry,My city have not UPS, only have MES.So I only use MES mail you( Very sorry, I forget tell you about this(

dennis: well, I guess you come to US in 2006 then

meilady: Why I need long time can with you together in USA???

dennis: because you send package by slow boat from China (joke)

meilady: I feel very misery for this( I want with you together early

meilady: In that long time, Can you to go to see me again??

Right then, I knew her only concern was to be with me and that any early apprehensions were now gone.

Thank you for such a positive post!

I have been looking for these positives ! :banned:

My SO gives me so many green flags. In fact, I have been searching for red flags and the only ones I have found are on flagpoles there! Some of the green flags:

***Meeting her parents, then her whole family :bangin:

*** She spent all her money on me. Paid for taxi from the airport, bought me food, bought my mother a gift, and when she ran out of money, she would not let me give it back to her. When we met with her family at a restaurant, she was so concerned making a good impression, that when she got her monthly salary deposit of 2000 yuan, she took out 1000 (1/2 her monthly pay) and gave me the cash and told me to use it if I needed to. We didnt, and I gave it back of course

*** We talk on MSN every day, and she uses an internet cafe, and that costs her about 400 to 500 yuan a month. We talk 6 to 10 hours per day! She has only missed one day since we first met and that was in the beginning ! Every day, she is there, online ! ! !

*** She has bought other things for me, pants, a book, all on her own

*** She has never knitted, and is making a scarf for me, her bao bao, to be ready for my December trip.

*** She talks with my mother online too.

*** Her eyes light up every time I schedule a trip there

*** When I first came to China, I went for 10 full days. She told me she would not leave me alone, and wanted to get all the time off from work. She ran into some difficulty, and told me not to worry, she will quit her job if they did not give her the time off! ! ! She said if I am coming all the way to China to meet her, she will spend every minute with me ! !

And there are many similar things that others have said in their posts. Can you imagine an american woman doing these? I can't !

These women know how to give, and they deserve the very best we can give them, and what they want most, is to be loved and respected ! ! ;)

  5. Okay,

Shipping things from China will sooner or later be something that most all of us will be doing and many already have personal experience.

I've searched Candle for some specific information on this topic and as you would expect the results were mixed. I read of many that had bad experiences with damage, and also there was quite a wide range of suggestions on price. Unfortunately the posts were hard to read and only a couple had specific information where one could do an intelligent comparison one to another.

I would enjoy hearing from ANYONE that has first hand experience with shipping large boxes (e.g., square meter or larger). If you would also indicate the company name, website if any, the cost, any special paperwork required, etc.

Perhaps this will be something that we can later provide to our members in the FAQ.

    Thanks....

    ;)

I have a question too.....My SO has about 250 DVD's....but are the  copies they sell in China. We talked about shipping them, but UPS said they may get confiscated at one of the ports.

I dont know if that will lead to federal charges, but we did not take a chance sending them. Does anyone know anything about sending or bringing these DVD's to america? Should we give up the idea?

I dont like the idea of throwing away 250 DVD that have chinese subtitles on it that we can both watch, but on the other hand, I dont want to be :bangin: and risk the K1, or worse, land one of us in a Fed Pen. :banned:

  6. Thanks ... and how long will we need to stay in Guangzhou? Will we pick up the visa there or will it be mailed?

    153121

I believe the visa can be picked up in a day or two after the i'view, and I have heard that mail is not a good idea.

As far as tickets, I am a United flyer, and United one way to Denver is about $700 to $800 each. My plan is when she gets the P4 , I will schedule my trip to Shanghai, get 2 R.T. tix to Guz. We intend to fly to Guz the day before, and back to Sha two days after. I have heard it is easier to change flights in China, than in the US, just in case we need an extra day to get the visa. I think airfare averages $200 R.T. each from Sha to Guz and back.

For me, to buy in advance is always cheaper. If I have to cancel, United will charge $100 and leave the balance for a future flight. The risk of losing this $100 I think is cheaper waiting to buy an expensive ticket a day or two before the flight home, so I always buy in advance.

    Hope that helps !

  7. I'm going to move this to Our Stories and hope it is not a mistake to do so. Situations come up like this from time to time and shouldn't be cloaked in the semi-secrecy of a member only forum.

    153153

I think this is an excellent decision and an excellent place to move it, thanks !

  8. i'm just worried now that this might be a big deal and prolong the process even longer.

so if anyone could help us we would really appreciate it thanks.

    153089

I was about to post a similar question, our P2 is on its way to NVC and my SO just moved too, although she is still in China.

Will a change of address at the NVC prolong their processing? Should it wait until it is sent to Guangzhou? Thank you all for your help !

  9. I am somewhat startled by the lack of outrage at what has happened to Mark, myself, and many others. We were suckered by women who wanted only one thing - an American green card. They promised anything and everything, said all the right things, slept with us, and then, once the goal was in sight and the border successfully navigated, quickly turned and looked for a better deal. Hell, my ex was handing out her email address on the goddamned airplane ride over here!

All I am saying is that when this stuff happens, there is a very muted response. If an American guy did this to a Chinese girl, you guys would be all over him. Imagine the response, if an American guy married the Chinese girl, and then, after a year or two, said " Get out and go home. I want a different, better, younger, prettier, richer ,etc., chinese girl. You did not fulfill my expectations." You guys would be all over him condemning him and offering help.

It seems to me that there is a double standard here.

    Just my thoughts.

Prevention is always the best cure........for the rest of the men who are trying to find chinese wives.......what would you say are the warning signs, if any? How does one see through it all?

Good luck to you in the future !

  10. My fiance in Shanghai went to a govt office (not the notarial office) for the single cert, and they gave her a certified document stating she did not marry anyone since 2002. They said they cannot do before 2002 since "the the govt did not have computer records prior to this". Is this correct, should this document be sufficient for the interview? :P

The notorial office said her only other option is they will notarize a sworn statement by her that she is not married, which is simply a notarized word of honor. Is this also acceptable for the consulate? ;)

Thanks in advance for any help ! B)
