1. I don't know what exactly happened earlier today, but my mother-in-law had her B2 interview and she passed after about 2mins. The ONLY thing that was asked for was my wife's greencard. My MIL passed over the stack of supporting papers that I sent over and he didn't even pull out the greencard scan, just looked through the stack and passed it back. They took her passport and sent her on her way. I really expected to be rejected ( based on most experiences on this site and others ). We are certainly glad, but I thought she would be grilled. Has anyone else had a family member with recent experience? Oh, the interview was at Chengdu.

Congra. I am starting the process for my parents' B2 visa. The interview will also be in Chengdu. Could you share your MIL's experience? Much appreciated.

  2. Rcv'd my 10 yrs green card yesterday. I was amazed by their fast speed this time since my conditional green card took extra 6 months to just fix an error. ( such a pain...)

Anyway, I am not ready to the upcoming citizenship stage, struggling whether I should or should not keep moving, but I know it has limitation compare to be a US passport holder, which requires GC holder to stay in US at least 6 months out of a whole year, less benefit, harder to travel... What else I need to be awarded of? how's your better half or yourself handle this? I still have sometime to think about it, but I just want to get a heads up info. Is it possible to be out of states over 6 months w/o some sort of AP as GC holder? Thanks for sharing.

  3. Hang in there Pete. I was laid off shortly before our interview.

It became a positive in our life and it does happen.

read your post... gave me more confidence to go back to work tomorrow and face to my BS boss... she gives me tough time <_< ... not fun...

Just believe things will get better...

  4. Hi guys,

I submitted my I-751 last week, an extended letter received yesterday shows the receipt number for I-751(start with 'WAC').So I went to the USCIS website to check the case status, it shows my receipt number is not valid, not in their system. Is this normal? happened to anyone else before?

  5. It looks like I might be transferred to Hong Kong in about 9 months. My wife currently has her CR-1 visa (and 2 year green card). In a few months, she will change to IR-1 and get a 10 year green card. After that, how long does she have to be in the US each year to keep her green card. A friend just told me 10 weeks. Is that right? That's a bit too long... If, she looses her green card do we have to go through the long grueling process again?

i wanna know the answer as well...

  6. Quick question, if anyone has idea what to:

my EAD will be expired in 2 months

Green Card approved 6 months ago with wrong data. sent it back, stilling waiting...

do i need to renew my EAD to allow me continue working?

i do appreciate any answer from you. thank you.

  7. Could anyone please answer my question:

Should we write to USCIS to correct the address?

bearbear, we have just been going through this.

Here is what you have to do: complete an I-90 form (can get from the USCIS site), return the green card with evidence substantiating the correct address as well as documentation showing identity, and just wait on a new one. I just mailed Jie's yesterday, they had the incorrect country (she is from China but they put Taiwan).

Also, on the letter that the green card was attached to, there is a phone # to USCIS that you can call, and they will give you the correct address you need to mail the I-90 to.

Its a pain in the a$$, but its the only way. Nevertheless, he is still legal in the US, so there is no worry about him being without the green card.

i have the same issue as your wife. it's been over 3 months since i mailed it back. i am still waiting, waiting and waiting...

oh my GOD~~~~it's gonna take them forever to correct their mistake. :eyebrow:

  8. The rocket scientist that processed your greencard must be the same one that processed my wife's. He/she needs to go back to grade school and repeat the geography class.

It took eleven days to receive the Taiwan greencard after the interview and then another two months to get a "corrected" greencard. Call the telephone number on the paperwork that came with the greencard and get the instructions for the paperwork and where to mail the greencard. Send it certified return receipt.

oh, yes. i agree with you...that person needs to do it ASAP, so that there are no more stupid mistakes like this happen on other people...cannot beleive how stupid he/she is.

2 months?!Well, at least better than 6 months... i heard from another person says it takes about 6 months. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

waiting and waiting, the only way i can do. i thought i will be done with all the paperwork for 2 years once i receive the green card, but their one mistake causes more paperwork and time...

i guess i will call that # on Monday, get as much information as i can.no one wants to work on the weekend, especially for the gov. employees. they dont need.

Since you have been sufferred on the process with your wife, at least it's all over for you. but for me, it just start. GODDDDD~~~takes forever... so, would you mind if i ask you the problems later just in case something i may not sure even after call the #? i really really appreciate it if i can do so. :P

oh, BTW. do i need to mail the letter back which came with the greencard?

johnxiaoying, thank you so much to provide me such a great info. i should say hi to your wife who had an incorrect taiwan greencard as me.

i will remember to make all the copies...

    thank you so much~~~

Before you send them your green card make sure you have the stamp in your passport showing you are an LPR, if necessary make an InfoPass appointment to get this done. They might be able to validate your paperwork there, but I don't know.

You can use the stamp in your passport just like the Green Card so you won't be caught in the middle while they take their time to get the corrected one out to you.

    238629

i do not have any stamp in my passport. i heard they will stamp in your passport after the interview, right? but, i didn't go for an interview. so i guess i will make a copy of my green card. just in case...

you mean i can make an appointment, go there directly?? but i read on their website says mail it back to the service center...Well, well... i guess i'll call the 1800 #, hope there is a live person. people are missing there all the time...

  10. sorry, i guess i can go through the form you provided, i saw it talks about the proof. thanks.

    238566

As I recall you had a K-1 visa, the visa page in your passport should show Nationality as CHIN, your passport shows your place of birth, verify your I-485 showed your place of birth as China.

The visa proves they have already recognized your place of birth as China and your I-485 shows it again so it is easy to prove that you did not make the mistake. You could also remind them that Taiwan is not a country, but a province of China.

If you want to have a bit of fun contact your congressman and demand to know why the US Government has declared that Taiwan is a country and not a province of China. Remind them that the Chinese government would not be happy with this official recognition by the US Government and you as a Chinese citizen would like to see them correct this. Who knows your congressman might just get this corrected for you with an apology from the USCIS.

    238604

Umm... that's a good suggestion. thanks, LeeFisher!

Taiwan is just a province,PROVINCE。。。i can not believe them where did they find this word, no where on my application form says TAIWAN. what a horrible job they did!!!

the relationship between taiwan, china and the us is too sensitive...

BTW,anyone knows how long i can get my green back?! one person told me on line says they will mail me back in 6 month. OH MY GOD~~~another 6month???

    anyone knows? :P

  11. My step-daughter's green card arrived with a misspelled name, so we had to file for a replacement, using an I-90http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/files/i-90.pdf

Unless things have changed, if you can show that the mistake was USCIS's mistake and not yours, the fee will be waived.  We filed our I-90 in person, but you may be able to e-file now (don't know for sure).

    238555

    thanks, frank...

they will charge me again??!!! :)

so what documents can i show them to prove that is their fault?? everything on my emplyment pass is correct, can i show them that??

on that piece of paper says call 1800 375 5283 if you find an error on it. but i called that # 1month ago, seems like no live people to pick up the phone, it's just the machine.

how did you deal with your case??you showed them anything??

    Pissssssssssssss me offfffffffffff~~~

    really appreciate, frank!

  12. The USCIS has accepted your name change as part of the AOS application and you won't have any problems with the biometrics. We did the exact same thing.

    198713

really?your wife also added your family name as hers and keep her original fist name? you were not refused to do with the biometrics.then how ahout the AOS interview? i am sorry to keep on asking the same thing.

    Oh, my god... so complex...

  13. What's the name on your appointment letter?

    198686

What's the name on your appointment letter?

    198686

the name on the appointment letter shows as:LINGLI,JAMES

LINGLI is my first name, which is the same as my passort first name.

JAMES is my husband family name, which i added it as my family name.

so, the passort shows my name as: SU, LINGLI

SU is my family shows on the passort.

all the letter from USCIS shows as: LINGLI, JAMES

    1st name M.name Last name

when i filled out the form i put: LINGLI SU JAMES

    cause problems?

  14. Ps: i do not change my first name, i keep my first name, and move my original family name as the middle name, and add my husband family name as mine. anyone has the same situation as my who had the Biometrics and AOS interview before? cause any problems??

i heard from one friend said they wont let you do the Biometrics if the name is different. is that ture?

  15. i just went back from the China Embassy in San Francisco. my purpose was going there and make a notation in the passport indicationg the married name and the the maiden name.

the lady there refused to do this for me due to my AOS is pending, even though i brought the marriage certif., SSC, and letters from USCIS. she said i do not have an official document to prove my name changed. Either i can get that document from the court or i have to wait until my green card gets approve and show the new name on it. then they can do it for me. Moreover, i told her that i filled out my AOS and EAD forms used my married name, she said i put myself in a trouble because the different name might cause some problems during the interview.

    So, my question is:

i am going to have the Biometrics on March 30th. and my passport only shows the maiden name, will that cause any problem due to the different name i use? and the time when you have the AOS interview?!

or i have to do what the lady says to get a name changed official document?

Pleas reply me if you have any exprience. BIG thanks!!

  16. Hello,

Can somebody either deny or confirm if IT IS REALLY NECESSARY TO DIVIDE THE PACKET INTO THE TWO SEPERATE APPLICATIONS (stacks)? (Adjustment of Status and the work permit)

    Thanks,

    Scott

    193327

i didn't...but i put stickers on each single doc. for instructions, then i used two small butterfly clips for AOS and EAD,a big butterfly clip bind together. but i think either way is fine.

  17. is there anyone has experience to change a chinese passport due to the name changed in San francisco china embassy either you or your spouse? i have already submitted my AOS and received the NOA1, therefore i am thinking to work on my passport named change. is anyone know that is ok if i change my passport before the EAD or AOS approve? or better to wait?

another thing is i am trying to get my DL after done with my passport and SSN name changed. i read about the California DMV info. they require the Name change documents. it says:if the name on your birth date/legal oresence document is different from the name on your ID card applocation, you must also bring an acceptable true full name document. So that means, the name on my passport and on my birth certificate will not be the same.where can i get the name change document? anyone has the same experience when you go thru it? will they let you take the exam if you only have the NOA instead of green card or EAD?
