  1. Hi,

Since I will have a fairly expensive surgery in January (Cataracts) we have been discussing health insurance in the USA and costs without it.

So, our daughter will graduate from college with a business degree in less than 3 years. I am about 6 years away from Medicare age. How can I take care of my wife (15 years younger) when this happens? I expect our daughter to be able to get a job with health benefits before age 25 when she can no longer be covered by my employer.

  2. Terminal 3 rocks!

I spent 4 hours outbound and 8 hours inbound (with my wife inbound) on our last trip. Once I was in Bejing I went straight to Starbucks. Then we had dinner at the Kenny Rogers chicken place upstairs.

Free WiFi in the Starbucks. They let us sit there for 5-1/2 hours! I bought a coffee, then when the employees started giving me the "haven't you finished that yet" look my wife bought a juice drink.

Lots of really modern totally clean restrooms. A large variety of food.

It is the best airport I have ever been in!

    Now, LAX...

  3. Hi,

I'm guessing from your description the 'Uber Hotplate' isn't a hotplate at all, but really an induction cooker. These are common in China. My wife asked me to get one for her, but since we have a gas stove at home it mostly sits unused. These can be bought in a 99 Ranch store or online (we got ours at Amazon).

  4. There is no recall currently, just a safety advisory. I took my mat out of my Prius as soon as I heard the news story. Then when I was in for service last saturday I asked about the recall and they said there wasn't one yet. They did say that even if you had the correct mat they were advising removing it until they actually determine the final solution.

  5. I assume that you sent a separate check for $80 for biometrics and you justs didn't mention it?

Anyways, congratulations! Our NOA letters took about a week after check cashing.

    -James

As a matter of fact NO!

    I-751 (CR1) 545.00 included the 80.00 for biometrics.

Just to bring everyone up to speed.

We just received (2) NOA's today.

    Both say the same thing.

It took two weeks, Mailed out everything on Monday two weeks Ago.

Sorry, my bad. I did send separate checks so I could insure they knew they were processing TWO applicants.

  6. Yes, 2 letters.

Note: If CR-Green-card is still valid and has more than 10 days left before it expires, and IF you have not revisited SSA and replaced the restricted "With DHS auth" SSN with the UN-Restricted SSN card, I would do so.

Many state DMV's will accept the unrestricted SSN card as proof of residence and issue a normal length DL

Good advice! Both my girls are studying for finals, but I will tell them to do this ASAP after that.

  7. Hi, we got our NOA for my wife's I-751 submission today. We did not get one for our daughter. We sent three checks, but the single letter gave a sum of $625 which is for all three checks. Will we get a separate NOA for our daughter? She has been asked by the DMV to prove her continued legal status in order to keep her drivers license.

Our daughter was included in my wife's I-751 form.

  8. Hi,

It appears there is a HIDDEN deadline for I-751 application. Both my wife and daughter are now VERY concerned because their college has asked them for documentation that they will still be legal after the green card date. That means that we MUST get the NOA from Laguna Niguel before then.

This was unconsidered. Maybe it should be added to the FAQ.

MEANWHILE are there any numbers on recent I-751 apps in California and how long it took for the NOA to get back home?

    -James

  9. We presented the following:

    1. Completed form

    2. Check for the application, plus biometrics fee for wife and daughter.

    3. Cover letter explaining the content of the application, that included references to figures, photos, bank statements, credit cards, and so on.

    4. All supporting evidence was scanned and imported into an MS Word document, using the advanced cross-referencing features for figures and attachments.

    5. Dated photographs showing a chronology of our relationship. These photos included images of us all together, at various events, Christmas, Halloween, arrival and so on.

    6. Copies of bank statements for each year, showing both my name, and my wife's name.

    7. Copies of driver's licenses and learners permits.

    8. Copies of green cards, front and back.

    9. Copies of insurance cards

    10. Copies of tax returns for two years, showing wife and daughter's names.

    11. Copies of Social Security cards, on original forms.

That's all that comes to mind for now. We filed in late January of 2009, at the Vermont service center. We are still waiting to hear the outcome.

    Thanks Jesse!

The drivers licenses and learners permits is a great idea!
