  1. Just wanted to report back on our experience.

My wife, son, and I went to Houston Chinese Consulate yesterday (3-15-11).We were able to renew the Chinese passport for our son.

The Consulate opens at 9am. We arrived at 8:30 and there were about 25 people in line already outside the front door on the street. Fortunately, we were able to get in quickly and complete everything before 11am. Total cost was 60 dollars(55 for passport and 5 service charge for mailing). My advice is to arrive before 9am. The Consulate closes at 3pm and takes lunch from 11:30 am to !pm.

Bring a pre paid US postal mailer envelop. I had a FEDEX mailer and they would not accept it. Had to go to the post office on Richmond Street about 8 blocks away. There were more than a few people buying envelopes and money orders for their applications for the Chinese Consulate.

Inside the Consulate all the business is taken care by 4 individuals who are sitting behind glass windows much like a Chinese bank. Applicants were crowded around these windows and submitting their paper work. I was surprised that it was so unorganized.

There is a nice Chinatown area about 15 minute ride from Consulate. There were lots of restaurants and other stores.

I am very relieved to finally get this taken care of. If anyone is going to Houston and needs info, feel free to email me. Happy to help out.

  2. Has anyone done the Chinese passport renewal at Houston Consulate? Impossible to get any up to date and accurate information regarding what documents are needed and other essential details. I even saw on the Internet that minors are not required to apply in person. Is this true? How many days would we nneed to be in Houston? Would appreciate any feedback regarding this topic.

    Many thanks,

    Ken

  3. I need to go to the San Francisco Chinese Consulate for my wife's passport renewal.

    Few questions

    1) If her passport expires after 8 or 9 months, will they let renew. Does it need to be 6 months or less?

    2)

Does anyone happen to know which form she needs to fill out?

  4. My wife arrived in US on this date. It's been an amazing 5 years. I am always thankful that we met and later married. Our actual wedding anniversary is April 4th.

Today is a wonderful time of reflection and gratitude for everything in my life.

  5. It looks like my family and I will have to find a way to get to Tampa on February 28th. There does not seem to be any way around this. We are about 190 miles away. It would be nice if the Houston Consulate was coming somewhere in south Florida.

What exact documents are needed for this process??

Do they accept personal checks as payment??

Any other need to know information??

    Thanks,

    Ken

    Do we need an appointment?????

It is really unbelieveable that you cannot get anyone to answer the phone at the Houston Consulate. On a few occasions I have gotten someone and they disconnect you or redirect to a dead end.

The website is a complete waste of time also.

  8. Hello Ken, the Houston consulate will be in Tampa 2/28/09 I think you can drive up there and take care of everything in one day. Here is a link from Cathy. http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=35309

    Thanks Mike.

That seems like a good possibility.

Do Florida residents go thru the Houston consulate?

We were told that some locals had gone up to NYC recently for the passport renewel?

  9. My wife and children need to renew their Chinese passports. The information available on the internet and directly with the Chinese consulate is quite confusing and conflicting.

If there is anyone out there who can give us specific information on how and where to do this, it would be most appreciated. We live in the state of Florida.(I am aware your state of residence determines which consulate will process the passport).

I can be reached by phone at (edited by warpedbored, it is not a good idea to post email or phone numbers in a public forum. Contact this member by PM for this information.)

    Thanks!
