  1. Hey, got my NOA for my wife's 10 year GC... and her last name is spelled AUEN. Hmmmmm hopefully it was just a typo and not some stupid idiotic government employee who cannot read.

Anyway, did this happen to anyone else? When I called the VSC, I really cannot get past the computer to a person, and when I enter the EAC number, it keeps coming back that they cannot find the account.

So... will they fix it when we arrive for the fingerprints? Should I keep trying? Anyone know a number besides 800 375 5283?

    Thanks one and all.

Peace out my brothers and sisters in CFL.

    :)

  2. We were CR-1, and we just immediately applied for her SSN in our name. Her passport still has her family name. (chinese)

She has left and entered the US without any difficutly whatsoever.

I say it really wont matter much, once you have a green card, she doesnt need to carry her passport around with her everywhere she goes.

    Peace

  3. I am not directing this comment at anyone, but finding a SO overseas if done correctly is an expensive process, and getting to know someone correctly is an expensive process so doesn't this fall under that concept that if you have to ask or worry about it , YOU CAN"T AFFORD IT???

The more I read the more I find that the successful relationships are those where both parties took their time and got to know each other, had multiple trips (not just the fantasy trip) and really know who their partner is.

The relationships that seem to fail (this is a generalization) are the ones where the parties talk for a few months, have one trip and live in a fantasy world until they start to live together and find that they do not know each other and do not necessary like each other.

The costs and the trips are an investment in our future relationships. We need to treat them that way. If the fee is $250.00 and then goes to $450.00, is your SO less worth it as the cost goes up???? I hope each of our answers is our SO is worth whatever the cost is.

Yup, of course she is worth it. Also, it wasnt a question of too much, it was more like I had heard that the rate was increasing, and wondered if its true, and the date... I submit our 751 in just a month... so I call it a case of making sure.

  4. The proposed price hike which must be approved by congress is from the current $275 (including biometrics) to $465.

Yeah, I saw that Carl. I am hopeful that the slooooooooooow moving government wont pass anything prior to Apr 10th, when I send in my application...

    B)

  5. Ok, thanks. The way things move in our congress, it shouldnt affect me ...

    phew..

There seems to be major push back against this on the Democrat side of Congress. It seems the message resonating is that this is a tax increase on poor immigrants, exactly what the

Democrats don't want on their record.

Makes sense... who would want to be seen doing that?

  6. :sosad: Now its about to change of course. My wife is coming up on her 2 year green card. Goodness gracious, hard to believe its been that long. My question to all knowledgable personnel, what form do I use to go from 2 to 10 year green card? She was a CR-1 visa, and we did not need an interview upon her arrival here.

Is the form needed a 485? And I was on the INS website, and I thought I saw I will need a 325.00 fee to file. Is this right or am I just numb from all that has happened in the past couple of years?

Hard to believe I am a government employee huh???? Even I dont understand the paperwork.

Have a great New Year all.

  7. Didn't have much choice between K-3 and CR-1. It took MSC 7+ months just to approve OUR K-3. In the mean time we made it through the CR-1 even enduring over 6 months getting through NVC and and the CR-1 arrived at GZ FIRST and the K-3 was a mute point.

BTW: Bahan What took you guys so long? :)  My wife was approved on JUNE, 29th ALSO but at 11:00am. Took long enough in paper submission/fingerprinting she had her interview in the morning. Richard

I think she was walking slowly... taking her time and window shopping along the way...

  8. I dont think she needs to return to china for a 10 year green card. I believe I need to apply here at INS....

We will be married 2 years next may, so maybe I better check if that is when she gets her 10 year card.

Sorry Don, about the mix up between K-1/K-3. ... But I thought it was K-1 which is the fiancee visa.

  9. Maybe most of the folks here already know this, but just to inform the ones who dont.. one difference I noted in CR-1 vs. K-1 is that my wife was here only 3 weeks and already received her green card. Yup, should have seen the look on her face when she saw she was a permanent resident already. Of course, we need to get the 10 year card, but we dont have any appointments to make, fees to pay, paperwork to file to get her 2 year card.

CR-1 might be a bit longer, but I think it was worth it. Now she does too.

    Have a great day all.

  10. GUZ told me that my fiancee's P-3 was received there April 1st.  From what I've been reading most people who had their P-3's in the system the first week of April have received their P-4's.  Obviously we have not.  I emailed GUZ for a status check and received a very polite, personal reply today (Saturday), stating that the interview is waiting to be scheduled.  Supposedly nothing pending, etc.  I realize this is an inexact science, but I am slightly, miffed?, that we haven't gotten ours as others in the same time frame have.  I believe they are aware that I am in China, and have been the past 3 years, and at one point I mentioned to them that since we are at least together I will be patient.  Well, I am running out of patience.  Do I need to get more forceful?, or just continue to enjoy the cultural splendors of China (which, my friends, is on the wane). Any suggestions appreciated.  Congrats to those who got what they were waiting for.

Just hang in there, you never know. Maybe monday morning will bring you a big suprise. Get angry? Naw.. wastes your time..

    Just my thought.

    :whistling:

  11. Hmmm yeah, ok. I am sure she can prove her ties. There has been no mention of staying at all... dont think that would be in her plans in any way... so I guess I will start this process soon... ugh.

But who knows.. in a year or two.....

Proving the ties is VERY important - they turn down people for this reason alone. The wait for an interview (the only wait for these visas), however, is usually on the order of a month, but with only a 25% success rate, according to stories.

This information is from Chinese friends of mine at work who have had their parents over. One, however, had his parents turned down 4 times before they finally gave up.

Wow. thanks for the info. My wife comes from an influential family, so maybe that will help. But who knows.. it could be palm greasing, if you know what I mean.

  12. Ok, all you smart guys out there. Now that my wife is here, is a permanent resident.. (got INS letter today yippee...) I have been thinking, I would like to bring her mother her to visit next year sometime. Since we just finished our process, I am sure it will be another year long investment of time and energy. So....

What is my first step to apply for a visitation visa for her mother? Any ideas to get me going?

    Thanks...

PS.. Best of luck to our new P4's and interview CFLers....
