  1. So the missus has been wanting to get a Chinese electronic dictionary for quite a while now, and after some searching around, we found the perfect one.

It's put out by a little company called Apple. It's called the the iPod touch and has all features that the higher end dictionaries have (handwriting recognition, voice, etc) plus loads more. You can even make calls to China using the device's WiFi capabilities. And it also plays mp3s!

    Best chinese dictionary ever.

Found the ultimate device 3 years ago.

It's called "Got Wife"..Not sold in local

    stores for any price.

  2. My fiancee has a bamboo scroll that she would like to give to my parents as a gift...but she is worried about US Customs taking it when we go through Customs at O'Hare. I told her I think it'll be fine, I really don't see a problem with it. But for her peace of mind I told her I'd check on it.

I also started to second guess myself a little because on my first trip to China going back through US Customs some dude got his terracotta warriors taken because they were made of Xi'an mud. It seemed so trivial... So I don't know, is a bamboo scroll considered plant contraband?

I brought 10 back myself from six trips, wife dang near brought her whole house back at poe. Never had a problem. The only item may have been a problem was cds. Jing had 4 more bamboo scrolls at poe didnt have a problem. I had the same warriors I think. Got them at the Xi'an site also. Had no problem. Dang things got busted up on the flight though.

  3. Unless you want to go to DC for the renewal you are to go to the consulate for your residence to renew the passport.

Some of the consulates will travel to other cities to provide this service, you might want to email the local Chinese Association to see if they have made arrangements for this service.

The passport renewal fee is $55 and you only need to complete the forms and pay the $5 for mail service. You need to provide a pre-paid label for this, you can do FedEx, UPS or USPS. I suggest USPS Priority Mail, the cost is less than $5 for priority mail

Only if the passport hasn't expired your wife could do this in China, it's not usually possible to travel on an expired passport.

Lees right. We did this 3 months ago in DC. Passport was expired so Chinas a no go. Do check with a consulate yourself about when and where they travel. Know first hand that can change at any time. All we needed was her I-94 and her passport. Didn't even need the I-94 when we got there only her passport. Yes in person is required. No one day service on passports. Take a recent passport/visa style photo with you 4 would be better. If not the consulate will have a photo booth or an area inside they will do it for you at a cost. Never did find out if traveling officers could do this. Gave up real fast on that option.

When the consulate has come here we were expected to have everything ready including photos, they did have a good supply of forms, we discovered the form on the website was not what they were expecting and had to redo it just before they saw her.

Lee is right on spot. In our area DC advised not to go the traveling prc route. Only our area they said. As he said the standard form on the website may not be the one you need. Thats another reason we didn't do it. Do make sure you have the pre-paid return envelope.

Forgot his id but another member in NC had to re-new his wifes passport within the last month. He went to DC also.

  4. The citizen meeting at the embassy is now on Monday afternoon which I plan to attend. Has anyone attended this meeting. What type of security measures do they have to let me in. Do I need any special papers. Any info would be appreciated. chazzy1098

I would guess same as any other visit. Have your passport, don't take a mobile or camera in. If you don't have a place to put it they will take it and give you a number. It's like going through airport security, but you don't take your shoes off.

Search for American Citizen Hour or ACH. I'm pretty sure there's a write up stickied somewhere.

True. Just don't expect answers to questions about your case. It's a general FAQ in .gov form.

  5.

    Hi Waterox,

We also went to Shamian Island and it is a good place to go.

Ling was a nurse and for some reason she did not want to go to the other place. Be aware that the DS-156 which is asked for, you can fill out the online forms but also fill out the forms in Chinese...you will get less hassle.....and since the consulate staff wants them filled out in Chinese...this will also save you some hassle.... :D :D :P :D

    Tom and Ling

This is not true - the Chinese forms are necessary - the English are not needed. USCONGUZ seems unclear here also

    http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...st&p=207951

The medical people often have their own standards for the forms, but I don't think we've heard of the screeners at the consulate rejecting a properly filled out form before

I think you mean the other way around. We did just the English DS-156 and left the Chinese version out.

I asked about this at the consulate at ACH and the answer was if can do the English forms, then just do the English forms.

    http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...st&p=283693

That's what I remembered, and initially posted.

USCONGUZ, however, first posted that the forms should be done in Chinese, and then back-tracked when it was pointed out that an non-Chinese applicant may not speak Chinese.

It seems to all be a matter of expediency in getting past the medical workers and pre-screeners at the consulate.

    Randy and All,

If you have read my interview post, You would know about the two Forms.

At the medical...the medical staff wanted the DS-156 filled out in Chinese, but I convinced them to take the DS-156 that were filled out in English only.

At Ling's interview...when they (the consulate staff) opened the medical envelope and found only the DS-156 filled out in only English..they made Ling find me and they wanted the DS-156 filled out in Chinese with telegraphic codes. So we finally filled out the DS-156 in both English and Chinese,,and it would be advisable to fill them out both ways to save you the hassle of doing it during the interview...and I just went through the interview.

And Randy...I said that the Chinese DS-156 forms were important and that they needed to be filled out because the consulate staff insisted they wanted the forms filled out in Chinese.

    Tom and Ling

We didn't use the one on Shamian Island. The other one was closer to home. They did say both english and chinese would be needed and advised me to do this. I was in the waiting room. My wife was a doctor at the same hospital so a co-worker there came out and talked to me. Make sure you have both at interview time. We have seen some who only needed english others chinese. Maybe it depends who she sees that day. Realy don't know.

  7. Hi:

I love my husband and he loves me too, we got married in 2007 , my son lives with us too.My husband and my son have very hard relationship.my husband often yell at him. yesterday when my husband got to home i asked my son to help to carry some my husband bags , my son did, when my husband came to the house and started to yell at my son ,spoke very dirty words :"ass hole ,why you walked on the road instead of you walked on the grass, when you walked on the road ,the road became very slippery, you are ass hole" i felt very disappoint in my husband when i heard that . I think someone try to help you , you should say thanks even you are parents and i think parents and children should respect each other too,He said his words is order my son has to obey. When he got sick he said my son caused that and bring virus from school.....once my son was cut hair and he let my son go to bed after that, My son just washed his hair cos some pieces hair made him itch then he started to yelled at him about half hour........

I live pretty hard and worry about what happen tomorrow, think about my son graduated from high school in 3 years , It is so long way.

Is my husband wrong or my son 's

    CAN LOVE LOAD SO MUCH

By remaining silent you are giving your implied consent for your husband to continue his abuse towards your son.

If you truly love your husband you will get him help. Quite possibly, his behavior is learned. You need to help him break the cycle, as he is only teaching your son that abusive behavior is acceptable.

If your husband will not listen to your words or pleas for him to stop then you may need to act by finding a shelter for you and your son to live. Drastic action my be necessary for your husband to realize that he needs to get help for himself.

Good luck and, if you decide to find shelter, there are members here who can help you.

Agree..She metioned chinese so some one could not read it. The best women for that can be found right here. Maybe if she posts anymore it should be there.

  8. Ok, thanks. So where can I buy XP? I can't seem to find any copies anywhere.

    www.tigerdirect.com

    www.geeks.com

Both had it for $89.95 Two weeks ago

Ebay also but price not sure of.

Shipping is extra best I know.

Try your local cpu private owned stores.

Sometimes price is better with no shipping charges.

    but they have TAX... :headbang:

and make sure you buy XP PRO... and not XP Home :surprise:

    Yep sam wants his share.

    Urkidding ain't kidding pro would

be better. Make sure its at least sp2.

Sp3 if can find it. Better to have it included.

Downloading sp's from update can mess your

system up even running only xp. Even

    more on a mac.

  9. Anyone try to eat rice with chopsticks without lifting their bowl to their mouth? Might be a good diet technique for some of us. :D

I'm around Chinese so much anymore that I forget what was once perceived as good and bad table manners.

I've always shoveled my food in...with sticks, spoon, fork, fingers... :P

Rice hard to eat with chopsticks in China. Not so hard here since its mostly in chunks. 100's of resturants in China we did the same with rice or soup. Chops dont have enough horsepower drag and drop with rice fingers are your friend. That chinese spoon dont fit mouth right? No problem pick it up and drink it same as ur tea. Folks at the next table will follow your lead. Use the force many will follow

  10. Thank for everyone's responses.I think different cultures make the new family a little hard ,plus my husband is a pretty strict in children, (his friends said that too) I think teenage children are a special period, parents need more patient and love for them.guide them, let them become good people. If you don't ready for that, better not to marry with a woman who has teenage children, or the wife is in a bad situation. She loves children and husband. sometimes it is difficulty to choose, anyway .if i have to choose .the child always is in the first he is young and need protect and take care from mom.It is my responsibilities for the child and the society

Thank to remind me write in Chinese so that my husband do not see that.

    Thank your advices

I still believe life is wonderful and try my best to change the situation

  11. Also try using other software to write to the DVD. Did any DVD burning software come with your DVD drive? If not, download Nero, or some other software which allows a trial period.

It's not a difficult issue you're facing, but it can involve some trial and error to determine what's compatible with what.

Thank you all who have replied.

I used a different software Windows DVD Maker. When I put in the first disc, the software rejected it as "not rewritable". But the second disc worked perfectly well. The original software which did not work was Windows Media Center.

Thank you again for your suggestions!

Vids and tunes not the same thing.

Vids are movies. Music is audio.

Windows is ok but like another posted

    use Nero or Jriver mediacenter.

Stopped useing RW dvd's and RW cdr's.

More trouble than they are worth.

Have had mediacenter 5 years best

software have found for the price.

  12. Jeff,

Take China out of the picture for a moment... Your relationship is still new, and you have not met her in person. I encourage you not to send her any money, that's a real bad sign. Gold digger exist there, just like they do here.

Treat the relationship the same as you would treat one here. Take it slow and don't let her looks influence you. Think with your big head. There is no substitute to meeting her in person.

I suggest the book available from asianpromise.com. In there, you read about warning signs. Being rushed is one of them, asking for money is another. Falling in love too quickly is yet another. There is plenty of time to meet her, and if all the right signs are there, you can help support her with English lessons.

I've been down this road, so take it slow and think things through. That's my $.02

    Good luck

    Tim

This www mess gets me. Pick a site, pick a pic. Shes hot so what she wrote didnt matter at all. Forget the flags if you want to. I'm sorry but pick a site, find a hotty pic. What happens after that is 100% up to you. Easy to find a pic from any country. Much harder to know whos behind that pic. Yours or hers. Sorry sound so blunt. Just be sure what your getting into.

  13. no.. no if soft children they no have self control or respect for olders, this will cause problems when they are older.

I am 2nd mother so cannont intervene much in this, but i say westen man and parents are to soft.

    Chinese children much more discilpine

I agree..Every where I've been in China, around our home,

at the 7-11, Pak-in-shop, bus stop, just walking down the

street meeting kids just out of school, at the malls, even

at McDonalds I was amazed how polite and respectfull

    children and teenagers were.

Sure some are cant say theres not. It is different here.

Children not much but teenagers you see any where you

go here makes you wonder whats thier problem. Many

have no morals, no respect for anything it seems.

Not even thierself. Understand the (2nd mother) thing

    to.

Its just my HO but many times she walks a fine line.

Many times have seen the parent take the side of the

child even though they know better.

Makes it even harder on her if she is from another

country. Seen it to many times to say it's not.

Just my HO but agree with you 100%.

My wifes role in my teenage sons life has not been

(2nd mom). She is mom and he has learned from

her, listens to her and takes what she tells him

to heart. Shes from China but her Chinglish is better

than my English or his. I do not get in the way.

She says if you dont say it up front soon it will

stick out behind. Agree with you 100%.

let her post in the new chinese forum, yes ?

lets us hear what all your wives/fiances have to say

Great idea Jin, will ak her to post

  14. I just found out that iTalkbb running this "Free 2009" Referral Program in Dec. Any one who refer up to 4 new users will get up to one year free service.

    more discussion see this post.

Seen that also. Had italk 2 years. Talked to a few people local but

always get asked you mean vonage? Not found anyone that would switch most of them say why haven't we seen a add on tv? Kinda gave up trying.

  15. Just wait for NVC processing, and then the 3 month hold between NVC send to Consulate "Receive"

I'm sorry dnoblett, what are you saying here? Could you expand on this as I'm not understanding your meaning.

    Thanks,

If Your Case Is Outside Our Current Processing Time

The processing times that we publish let you estimate how long it will take us to process cases filed before yours, and then process your case. However, every case is different and sometimes an individual case can take longer than average.

If you don't hear from us within the normal processing time, check for updated processing times on our website. If your case has a receipt number, use it to check on the status of your case at the same time. We recommend this action on your part because our notice may be on its way to you.

If at any point your case should become more than 30 days outside our normal processing time, and you haven't received a written decision or update from us within the last 60 days, you can help us by calling customer service and letting us know. We will research your case, see what needs to be done to get it processed, and get back to you with an explanation.

The extra 30 days is to allow time for any notice from us to reach you as we process your case.

Your case is within (thier) normal process. Working on Feb puts your filling later not before cases they are working on. Like others said you wont get much info from them at this time. We never could, just had to wait. Dnoblett got you on tract he is right on. Our noa2 for k3 i-130 took almost 8 months.

  16. Dont have all the facts. Wife has a friend in Texas.

She is the second wife. This family has a resturant

in Texas. It seems she was more or less a slave.

In the familys home she couldnt even decide what

color bed sheets to put, could never even shut the

door to her room to use the computor, the family

wouldn't allow it. We would call her so called husband

a mommies boy. She demanded they get their own place

so they got pretty much a hotel room. With the familys

blessing as long as it was in her name, not hubbys.

I dont know all but long put short she went back to

China for a couple weeks and found out from there

they didnt want her to come back for any reason.

They took it upon themself (hubby to). To be .gov

and demand her not to come back. She did come

back, all she has is her wal-mart job and a hotel room,

and real bad advice how she should go from here.

We dont know the full story but her side of it belive

is true. We dont know how to give her legal advice.

We cant. Anyone know of a good lawyer in Texas

wouldnt cost her a arm and a leg?

Good luck from us also. Had similar neighbor/wife's English class friend in same awful situation. Fortunately, she has been attending church since in the US and I suggested (due to limited finances) that she share her story with fellow Chinese church attendees and have been recently told they are helping her get out of lousy marriage and acquire places to stay. Breaks our heart to see this lovely lady (60 years old) go through such anguish, BUT her miserable, soon to be ex-husband, is dying and she will finally be rid of this man and her family who have treated her so poorly this last year and a half. (he basically just used her to care for him as his health fails.

(had to edit my previous angry response), but I must say, my wife and I were distraught and felt so helpless when she would call crying, and hyper-ventilating, and feeling so trapped. It was very sad and I hope your gal has a happy ending too. : )

No need to edit feel the same way. Know well the helpless. She does the same, calls at midnight sometimes. She is in a by the week place or something, she calls and hangs up wife has to call her back. She calls maybe two of three times a month for about 4 months now. I can tell she is getting advice from people she don't understand. I think the only resource she has is wal-mart co-workers and locals from a small texas town. Will get wifey to find out how shes doing now. Not heard from her for about two weeks.

Perhaps pm me and my wife can offer a comforting voice if both are willing to share phone numbers. Breaks my heart to hear of somebody living this kind of life...not quite the dream they were hoping for....Please let us know if we can offer some verbal support. : )

...won't be getting e-mails till the end of this week.

Thanks much!!! Give me a little time will pm you. She has never asked us for anything but advice. I didnt mention this family is chinese what part of china they are from not sure of. Sorry about that. Next time wife talks with her will get her number. You got that right seems her dream turned into a nightmare from day one.

  18. Could be the wireless adaptor or radio isn't operating on the same channel frequencies as the wireless router.

Good point, made me think of another problem. We have italkbb but our phone we found out was not wifi friendly. She couldnt access the wireless because of that. Maybe not why, probably a long shot. Netgear had no problem finding the IP with the software that came with our router and usb adapters

  19. Sooooooo let me see if I have this right.

Then again, tax policy can have a huge and positive impact on individual and group behavior.

So carbon is BAD so tax the hell out of it and there will be less.

Overpopulation is BAD so reduce taxes on someone who has more kids and increase handouts for unmarried mothers times the number of kids. That gets you what?

Pretty much broke us normal folks. .Gov control or is that the new world order? They did solve that problem in Star Trek First Contact.

Forgot where but did see on the web where some so called leaders

realy are trying to find out how based on a few parts of that movie

they did away with all your problems as they see it. Everyone is equal, money is a thing of the past. No more borders we are one big happy family fighting the borg. Good movie but realy makes you think some .govs maybe most lost site of us long ago.

  20. It's got to come from a DHCP server - the router should get it's IP address from your provider's DHCP server, and then it also needs to be a DHCP server for your own computers.

Check the setup on the router. You should be able to access it through a browser at http:\192.168.0.1, or 192.168.0.100, or 192.168.1.0 or something like that.

You may already know this - if so, give us more details - you know, the dirt.

Pretty creative there with the topic, but watch it! :)

You are right Randy, I don't need any bad luck... maybe a kind Mod can move it to a more appropiate place... I was just having a little fun like others have in the past, although it made me nervous doing so.

yes, I know this about the DHCP.... it's not the router.... she can use the laptop with a cable... just not wireless.... it is a setting on the laptop, they had the same problem at the computer store, but the person who finally connected there was not there when I was.

My wife's laptop is the same but she could access my time warner wireless modem ok useing the laptop card she used in china.

We got our own Netgear so could stop the extra 10 bucks a month.

Didnt have a problem useing the Netgear router and Netgear usb

adapter. We did have a problem useing diffrerent routers with

different cards. Sorry not much help.
