  1. At interview request them back, in theory should return them. The reason they are brought to interview is so they can compare originals to the copies.

Perhaps bring photocopies into interview to swap, if this is not done, then try the swap when entering the USA when POE officer inspects immigration a packet.

Lastly could request USCIS to return them by sending them a request form. G-884 http://www.uscis.gov/g-884

In my wife's case we got two certified birth certificates and let consulate keep one, other docs like certificate of no marriage and police cert the consulate could keep because not needed later on.

You can always get another at notary office before coming to the states.

    Thanks

I will send them an email asking, can I get the docs back and what are my options. i do have scanned copies which I can retrieve from emails I sent to NVC a few months ago using the newer faster process for a visa.

Getting more notary copies with English translation will cost a few hundred rmb. I don't want to spend the money.

  2. the officer told my wife she will get the visa in the mail in 2 weeks.

hey william lee: what part in the process that you got the exit permit yet? my wife told me in order to get the exit permit for baby, they will have to destroy the documents for the baby (not sure what it is called, but it is registered with family with english tranlation that you get from the psb). did you have to do the same thing?

Strange why 2 weeks. Where do you live ? It should only take 1 week by EMS. Get ready to paid a bill for COD package.

I don't know what docs are you talking about ? What registered with family wtih english translation ?

I got unset at the police office. After going there and asking what docs to bring and copy for the visa for the baby, we got the necessary docs and went back two days later. Then the same guy said you need to bring the baby. I then I go mad and yelled at him because he never told us that. We have to make another trip to the police station for exit and entry visas. So no exit visa yet for our baby.

Don't know anything about destroying any documents since I am not at that stage yet.

  3. What visa is spouse getting?

CR-1 involved sending all this to NVC only things that tend to be turned in at document intake are what was scanned and emailed to NVC. They tend to not ask for any relationship evidence at document intake.

What was taken from us on the first day I kind of want them back. The documents they took were certified copies on day 1. It cost me a few hundred rmb's. It was for a CR1. Everything was scanned to NVC using the new process. The slower way was send by regular mail.

  4. ok, my wife is here on her 1st day and the officer didn't even ask her to hand in any documents like email, photos, tax income while they ask others. they just asked how old is the baby and for her to come back tomorrow at 7:30 am.

so my question is this is a good or bad sign?

On first day they just want the basics for documentations. Also on the first day, they take finger prints. On the second day at 7:30, it's the interview day. Are you sure they didn't take any documenations like tax returns, I864 and marriage certificates etc.

On the second date is when they drill you for information and ask for additional documentation. If it's a passing grade with a visa, you will know on the same day. Did you get a visa on the same day ?

  5. so they got a slip that say not a bonifade relationship. did they reschedule for another appt.? do you believe they requesting the dna cuz they didn't have the us consulate birth certificate the and usa passport for the baby on hand during interview? in other words, if they had the baby usa passport, the consulate probably won't have requested the dna report.

Sorry I don't know their whole story. The guy told me at first everything was fine with their interview. Then they changed their minds and wanted DNA testing. I believe it takes about 30 to 45 days for the results but I'm not sure.

In my opinion, in getting a passing interview, it depends on who you might get and luck if you have bad proof and lacking a bonifade relationship. My wife said she saw one window the interviews were fast and she believe most got a passing OK for a visa.

  6. william lee: hey, just curious if you wife had the interview yet? if yes, how did it goes? what did you wife bring or show the officer about the baby? was the baby enough for her for guangzhou nazi to grant her the visa?

my wife interview is coming up pretty soon...

Had the interview this week. Damn hotels were twice to three times their normal rates because of the Canton Fair. Suprising her interview was less

than 2 minutes. After asking about any baby, and looking at the documents for the baby, she said everything looks great and you are done. She was given a white paper.

On the other hand, we meet a couple that requires DNA testing. They applied for a passport for the baby and was accepted but they didn't have it on hand yet for the interview. They showed them a Chinese Birth Certificate and other docs but it was not enough for some reason.

NOTE I want to attach serveral pictures of documents in a post but I don't know how to do it......I have pictures of documents that needs to be filled out for a Chinese exit visa for a baby. .Can someone explain how to post pictures ?

wow dna testing? so during the couple interview, the officer ask for dna report? how did they do the dna test so fast? the first day was to gather all the evidence and 2nd day was the actual interview. where was the dna testing being done? which hospital and was the result seal? was the couple both asian?

It was after their interview they requested a DNA testing report. There were both Chinese. I told them about this forum.

I'm have not gotten the visa from EMS yet. It takes about 1 week. As a result, I Don't know how may days for the visa.

Would like to know if it is possible to attach pictures to a post. thanks....

  8. Tomorrow is my appt. It is at 8:30 am. They said ppl start lining up outside at 7 am already. Do we need to wait in line with those ppl or we can skip them? If we can skip them, do we just tell the guard we are here just for birth abroad certificate and they will let us skip all those ppl and go straight to 5th fl.?

Just walk up the the 5th floor and show them everything. No need to get in line if you are an American Citizen. I didn't.

After 3 weeks I returned for the Birth of Abroad Certificate and passport. I asked the lady about the next steps leaving China with a baby. She was a Chinese lady who spoke English OK but I could tell she wasn't a native speaker under 30. She told me something I was a little suprised to hea. The baby is a Chinese Citizen and needs a Chinese passport. She asked my email addresss so she can email the instructions. She never email me the instructions and it's after 6 days now. I search the web for information and so did my wife. I also asked another person. He said it's not neccessary for a Chinese passport. My wife said if it's true, it is a big big hassel to register the baby at her home town in some kind "red book". I now believe she didn't give me the real information from my questions

From the us embassy website this is what I got:

"In order for American Citizne Children born in China to exit the country, approproate travel documents must be obtained after a Consilar Report of

Birth Abroad and a US passport are issued by the US Consulate/Embassy".

  9. hey william, on the passport application it gives you 3 options: u.s. passport book, us passport card, or both?

which one did you decide to get? if you apply both, is the cost the same as just getting the u.s. passport book or more? if more, how much?

I only requested the US passport. I didn't know anything about a us passport card. Cost for passport book was 105 USD.

  10. the whole point of going to guangzhou embassy is to register the baby birth abroad and to get that certificate. like randy w said, you can use that certificate so when the child comes to the usa, it can be used as birth certificate for school and work. if you didn't get it, you better go back and ask them when you will get that certificate.

All documents must be originals or certified copies of the original. The fee for the Consular Report of Birth Abroad is US$100.

If the child’s U.S. Citizenship is established, a U.S. passport can be issued to the child upon application. The fee for a minor’s passport is US$105.

    From website

I forgot about this extra Certificate or FS-240, sorry. I beleive the Birth of Abroad Certificate will be issue at the same time when I get the baby's passport. It's two things. Total cost was $205 for both which I paid on the appointment date.

  11. i know you need to wait 2-3 weeks for the passport. how about the birth abroad certificate? how long does that take?

Sorry, I don't know anything about a birth aboard certifcate ? I think your Chinese birth Certifcate is prove of birth abroad.

Fogot to add, they took my English translation for the Chinese birth certificate. I kind of want it back and will ask for it when I get the passport next week.

  12. know they won't send the passport to either to the usa or china home adddress.

but on the application for the baby passport, it ask the permanent and mailing address. i still need to fill out the baby passport application and it ask for the address. what did you use? your usa or your wife china home address on the application?

    thx again.

i didn't get a confirmation # or email during my last time online appointment booking. so i rebook it for another date and print a screenshot. i hope that good enough for them to let us in.

I don't remember what addresses I used. Most likely i put down a mail address for the USA for permanent and for a mailing address. I don't trust China's post office system. I once mailed a package to my wife and it was opened. She got the package but someone stole 20 USD. I knew it might happened. If they want your wife's address in China for a mailing address, they will ask for it. They will go over each forum, line by line if there are any mistakes. I made 2 on the forums and it was noted by the person. I had the kids month's birth date wrong for one error. I know at least two people looked at my forums. The first was the person at the first window when I first arrived. The second time was 3 hours later at a different window for another person.

You can also make a note of it and ask them at the window. "What they want for addresses" or it could be what YOU want to put down for addresses. Make sure you have all the addresses on hand in Pinyin and in Chinese Characters..

The sceenshot of the rebooking will work to get in the door. At the door, I show them the appointment letter. The guard then asked for wife's ID, my passport, and the baby's birth certificate.

  13. “Please download and review all the forms for this cases visa category. Fiancé(e) visa applicants should download K-1/K-2 Appointment Packet (“Packet 4”); K3/K4 visa applicants should download K-3/K-4 Appointment Packet (“Packet 4”); all other visa applicants should download IV Appointment Packet (“Packet 4”).EB5 (C5, I5, T5, R5) applicants should also bring proof that their investment funds have been transferred to an escrow account or made available to the U.S. investment project.]”

I also got a question from the email appointment P4.

The email is asking for "escrow accounts" or "US investment projects" being transfered ???? I am assuming if I have investments like Mutral Funds, 401K, stocks, IRA's in the USA is what they are asking, then I will be fine.

  14. Hello seafood10 some replies to your PM.

    1. when are you planning to go to the us embassy in guangzhou?

I was there on Thursday, Sept 13.

    2. on the birth abroad application, when it asks for baby name, are you putting an English name or Chinese name for the baby? and how about the last name, are you using the same exact spelling as your last name (i.e. for example, there are different spelling of wong = wang, leung = liang, chan = chen = cheng). so if one of those last name you have, are you putting your spelling or you letting the embassy decide?

In the translation of the birth certificate, I requested the Traditional form of Chinese my last name only. They said it wasn't a problem. It cost me 80rmb for the translation.

    3. for proof of residence of the us, what evidence are you taking with you? are you taking just your most recent passport plus your old one? or you taking more, like phone bills, credit card statements etc.

I was born in the USA, so there was really an issue. You have show them your current passport. I did tell them I have my first issued passport from years ago. After telling her, she said she would like to see the passport. On one forum, I just put my "date of birth to present".

    4. so any update on your baby name? were you able to give the baby English name like you wanted? if yes, on which application did you put it in? did you put in form ds-2029 or ds-5507 or both? please let me know. thx.

Yes, no problem see below. had to sign something.

    Summary:

After 42 days of waiting, we were able to go to the hospital to get the birth Certificate. Found out each hospital is different time for waiting. The baby's name was in Simplified Chinese like everything else on the birth Certificate. There was some English for translation. ie "date of birth" is in English letters and Simplified Chinese Charters. When they tried to put my English name, it was too long. My FULL name could not fit on the Certificate. They had call a computer programmer to adjust the field length longer. I had to wait a few hours. Told them they have to rush because we made an appointment the next day at the Embassy.

Rushed to a place where they translation documents from Chinese to English and the other way around. They translated the Chinese Characters into Pinyin and Chinese to English. The translation doesn't need to be certified. If a certification is needed, it cost more, and 4-5 more days. Told them I would like baby's last name to be Traditional since my last name was in Traditional forum. Both last names mush match up and they said it wasn't a problem. Everything else didn't matter. The translation was done in 1 hour. Cost was 80 rmb.

There are 3 forums I believe and I put the baby's full English name plus middle on ds-2029, ds-5507 and passport application.

After giveing all the documents at window 35, we waiting about 3 hours to get called. Another lady went over the documents again. She gave me a document later to fill out and sign. I had to put down the original baby's name in Pinyin, date of birth and what I want to CHANGE it too. ( ie ENGLISH NAME ) This name in English will be the name on the passport.

Have to go back in 2-3 weeks to get passport at Embassy. You can ask someone else to pick it up but you need the receipt and signed a paper.

  15. Thanks Dan for the advice!!

One question tho, they ask for my passport pages with my travels, I sent them all pages in my new passport which only deals with my travels to meet LiYuan,

Do I need to scan my old passport which really has nothing to do with this relationship but deals with all my travels since 2001.

Hope they do not need them as thats a lot of pages since i added to it twice.

    Thanks

    Paul

I would like to know also. Should I include ALL passport pages for me and my wife for the interview at the Embassy ?

    Thanks,,,William

  16. my question is i want to do a dna test to remove all doubts, do you think i should? and how much would this cost and which hospital should we do it at? do we need to notarized medical documents also? i want my wife to have all the necessary docs during her interview.

I hope you kept and receipts from the hospital. We kept majority of the receipts from her first checkup to birth. We just came back from the hospital for some baby shots.I demanded and told my wife the hospital to put my English name on all receipts each time. So the receipts have both our names.

For DNA testing in China, I believe it's only required if there is something funny. I don't believe it's required for most case. Yes, like Randy W said, wait and see. Something funny is like a mix marriage and there is a Chinese baby in front of the officer. The baby should look mixed but is not, might be a concern. The age and timing is wrong and the last time you were in China was 11 months ago. I recall reading for other countries it's required. You two were not married when you had the baby in China, might required a DNA test.

For sure, a different father's name on one of the receipts will cause a red flag.

  17. just an update. spoke with my laopo yesterday and she went to the hospital to register the baby name and since i'm not there, they said the baby last name will be under her last name. i can't say i'm too happy about that.

i'm also looking at the consular abroad application and it said to use the exact chinese name of the baby on the application from the chinese birth certificate. i don't see where you can change the baby name to the english name that you want.

now that my baby is under my wife last name and i dont see it anywhere to change my baby to an english name i'm kinda worry. i want an english name and my last name on the application. i dont know if they allow this?

also, ed: what kind of proof are you bringing with you to the us embassy beside your passport to register your baby name?

i'm eagerly waiting for your answer or anyone who can also help me?

I also read the embassy website. The names must be exact. For us, the birth certificate is after 42 days. I also hope it's not an issue. I will be going to the embassy the middle of Sept. I will give an update afterwards..

Seafood when exactly you be in China ? I am in Southern China now.

  18. You can apply for visas before having plane tickets.

Either visit the consulate having jurisdiction over where you live, or use a visa service. I used Oasis visa service the 3 times I visited China. https://www.oasischi...urist_visa.html

Counselor district map.. (I believe you are in the Carolinas, so Washington DC (Alexandra VA) will be the consulate you deal with, Oasis Visa service uses this consulate.)

If spouse is a naturalized US Citizen getting a visa for first trip over after becoming a US Citizen, will need to also include their Chinese passport so that it can be invalidated.

One other thing being discussed is needing to also attach some form of invite, can be a letter from family, or a travel agent in China. SEE: http://candleforlove...isa-requirement

I just came back from the Chinese Embassy in California. Starting August 1 they are requesting some more documents. For a tourist visit, they are requiring proof of hotel reservation and a copy of your round trip ticket to China BEFORE they issue you a Chinese visa. You can also have a letter from friend or family. For letter, they need to write their address and a copy of their ID. For business visa it was something else. It was very confusing and they could not explain what was needed. They should have had a sign so people didn't I have wait over 2.5 hours before finding out. Two ladies kept telling me to look at their website. I was very frustrated and mad after waiting for 2.5 hours. I will go back tomorrow with a hotel reservation I just made on the net and the plane ticket.

  19. Will they even accept traditional characters on an official document on the Mainland? I know my wife has trouble even reading traditional characters as all she ever learned was simplified.

Have you reviewed the Consualr Record of Birth Abroad application? I would think you would have to write's your son's name in Pinyin and you can spell it whatever way you wish.

My son has a Chinese name with Chinese Characters now. I am planning to leave out the Chinese Characters and the pinyu name. When registering a birth aboard at the US embassy, I am entering an English name for first, an English name for middle, and a traditional name for last.

The problem I might see is the Chinese characters and in pinyu with the English names don't match.

From what you are saying, It looks like it's does NOT matter what name I write on for birth aboard at the embassy.

  20. I just got a son a few weeks ago. On the Chinese birth Certificate the name will be in Chinese characters. Will get the certificate in 42 days. My wife tried to use an English name ( or pinyu ) but was told it was not possible or they didn't want to do it for her.

I think it's better to used a traditional version of the name over the simplified version for my case. For my Chinese last name, I am using traditional. The name of my son will be simplified.

When applying registering a birth aboard at the US Embassy, I HOPE there is no problem entering a English name that is NOT the same as the birth certificate in Chinese ? I also see a possible problem with seeing the last name that is different. For example, Wong and Hwang. The last name don't match and I am enter a English name and not a name in pinyu. BTW, Wong / Hwang is not my last name.

I don't think there are big things or major problems but any comments or suggestions.

  21. I didn't read everything and I don't know the whole story. If I you were you test her. Since you and her are not married, I would ask one of your friends to help and travel to the Philippines. How did you two meet ? Ask your friend to try to meet her the same way. Ask your friend to pick her up and date her.

Ask your friend to ask questions. Like if there are any other relationships and see how truthful are her answers are.

You could also test her by telling her both of you are living in the Philipines for 10 to 15 years. She is not going to the USA that soon. She will be about 35 to 40 by that time. It seems like she wants to get to the USA as soon as possible by any means.

I wonder what she will say and do ? Will she leave you now instead of later ?

  22. Finally got a reply a few days ago from the PM I sent last month. Told Gruzd I was planning to post his reply in a few day.

    William Lee

    Gruzd said:

    ======================================================================

    Hello!

I'm terribly sorry for not replying for such long time.

So, US Consulate requested a Police Certificate which covers whole territory of China, but PSB Office in Shenyang officially denied to give is such document, they only provided us a local Certificate which covered Shenyang district only. That document didn't work for Consulate but we told them there is no chance to obtain such document in Shenyang. That was a typical "Catch 22" situation, so Consulate called Shenyang PSB office and PSB confirmed that they're cannot provide whole country cover Certificate.

After that we received a letter said our visa approved. As we know, this situation happened in Shenyang only, other provinces will provide proper document with no problem.

    Basically, that's it.

    Good luck!

  23. We got a Chinese translation of the Police Certificate. She had to go back to her home village. I think it was around 400 rmb for translation. We didn't know if it was necessary or not for the transaction so we did it anyway. Email the Police Certificate alone with the other documents to NVC. Aboit 2 weeks later, my case was forwarded to Guangzhou. To answer your question, I don't know if it's required or not for translation.

  24. For the next step I think it's called packet 4 for interview, I thought we were suppose to get something in the mail. Packet 4 contains information like which hospital, more forums etc.

Since I am the choice of agent on DS-3032, am I suppose to get it or my wife ? And it doesn't make a difference if I optin for scanning document to NVC. On the hand, it might be too early and to wait for something in the mail. My wife was extremely happy but shocked that it was so quick for interview.

Note, I think it would be even faster by a week if I didn't waited to send the DS-230 with the other docs and a few days for other things.

Lately Packet 4 has been reported to be just an Email to print out for interview invite, and instructions to download the forms from the consulate website...

    http://guangzhou.use...and_packets.htm

If they do mail out Packet 4, it will be mailed to beneficiary in China, sending them to petitioner in the USA would not be convenient if petitioner is not going to China for the interview.

Thanks for the info. We did get some basic instructions in the email along with the interview date but i thought it was more. The link to the conslute's website is dead. Will try again later tonight. Anyway, I will find the webpage one way or the other for the needed information. Thanks again.
