AOS Interview

Recommended Posts

With our AOS interview coming up, I'm collecting interview information both for the FAQ and ourselves!

What stands out to me from the GUZ interview, and which I am equally applying to the AOS interview:

1) Documentation - consistency can be checked with questions similar to items on a form

2) Relationship - questions/evidence to show it is bona-fide

3) Public charge - financial evidence to show this is not an issue

The next posts will share information that I've collected in regards to the AOS interview...

Hi David,

I am getting very confused. Do we need to bring "Birth Certificate of any child"? they are not children of this marriage, and we do not have the custody.

More good work by David.

Another item for the "What to Bring"

My wife's cousin has volunteered to act as

her interpreter.

Just in case she get nervous and reverts back to

"I don't know" when she doesn't understand something. :P

193052

My SO said she doesn't want an interpreter !!

I must of over prep'ed her for the GUZ interview.. always playing down an denial as "we'll just go back again with whatever they want"...

Now she's using that line to me for the AOS interview

very confused.

193157

I'm with you on the confused part ! :(

-----

The letter states:

- If you have children... (meaning from you and your SO)

- Then later mentions custody papers for any children (??)

I would assume that any child that needs to adjust status requires proof of birth... and that's where the line is drawn...

Hopefully some others can chime in ...

This is a great compilation of information David. Thanks. I think it will be helpful for those heading for AOS interviews.

Like most things in this process, I think different officers do thing in different ways so it is hard to know what to expect. Our interview, for example, was really informal and the officer really didn't ask any questions. Just wanted to know if we still lived at the same address. He played with the baby for a few minutes and approved everything.

I will also mention that he had our file on his desk. The thing was close to three inches thick!

About the only thing he really wanted to know was how the food was in Shantou, where we lived during our last four years in China.

I guess we were lucky in that regard.

Thanks again for compiling all this. It will be a boon to many.
