Hi CFL,

I'm considering applying for a Mainland multiple entries "L" visa in Hong Kong. Has any US citizen been able to apply for this visa in HK? What supporting documents are request? How much is the visa fee? And how long does it take? Thanks!

I know that in NYC, all you need is the mariage certificate and a copy (they will keep the copy) and a letter from your wife/husband (in chinese). The fee depends on the country that YOUR passport is issued in. However, americans pay more than others (in retaliation for the new finger printing fees that we imposed on most chinese visitors to the US).

From HK, I am not sure, but I gather that the rules are the same at all chinese consulates around the world (at least from what I have seen).

If you are not married, you can still easily apply for a 2-entry visa.

This above all applied ONLY IF YOU HAVE ALREADY BEEN TO CHINA ON A DIFFERENT VISA BEFORE. It is quite rare for them to issue a multi-entry L visa to a first time applicant to China.

Getting a visa in Hong Kong is the easiest of all. You can do it in one day if you need to. Go to any good travel agent (PM me if you need some names) give them you passport by 9AM and by 1:30 PM you will have a visa. I did this for my Uncle last month. But, you can't do this on Saturday afternoon, holidays or Sundays so plan your arrival or take a short stay in Hong Kong.

For a first visit you will get a single or double entry - not multiple entry

Hi Trvldog,

Thanks for the info. Well, I have been to China numerous times on visa issued by the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles. However, I have never applied for a Mainland visa in HK before. I'll be in HK tomorrow on Nov. 22nd. If I want to apply for a multiple entry visa to China, what supporting documents must I submit along with the application? How much is the fee?

It depends on the duration of the visa for multiple entries, as well as the country of the passport that you use. As a warning, anyone on a US passport pays more, so if you are a dual national with another country (eg: england, france, etc.) use that passport instead. The fees are the same from any consulate in the world. However, here is a link to of the many places in HK to get a visa: http://www.chinatravel1.com/english/useful...chinesevisa.htm

do note tha the prices are higher if you have a US passport.
