Love-Hungry Zoo Chimp Takes Up Smoking

 

ZHENGZHOU, China (UPI) -- A sexually frustrated chimpanzee at a Chinese zoo has taken to smoking cigarettes and occasionally spitting, China's official Xinhua news agency reports.

 

Feili, 13, is apparently dissatisfied with the physical performance of her cage-mate, who is 28 years older, said Liu Bing, the Zhengzhou zoo director.

 

Liu said he doesn't believe the chimp is addicted to nicotine, but is bored and imitating the people she sees outside the cage as they smoke and spit.

 

The report said Feili becomes excited when she sees a visitor light up a cigarette, and becomes impatient when they show no sign of giving it to her. Tourists who throw the chimp a lit cigarette short of the cage pose no problem for Feili, as she uses a stick to drag the butt within reach.
