markimwaiting
This is another letter I will send (fax and email) to both, Im not real concerned about it being perfect. we all know Im not good at letters, hehehehehehehe. Folks, knowing what I know as of this morning, I highly suggest we all get to writing a solo letter. please feel free to use this one if you like, make changes as you like but please, if you want your loved one, send some letters. Dear Maura Harty, cc GZ Consulate I would like your help to locate my fiancée’s clearance check.I have waited since 8/22/2002 since the interview, and since 6/22/2002 when the name check was submitted the first time. This is now 6 months since the name check was started. I have talked with so many people and still, I cannot get an answer. So far no one seems to know where our clearance check is at this point.I have heard from the Consulate in Guangzhou it is in the hands of DOS, and I have heard from DOS that is in the hands of Guangzhou. I have heard it needs to be re-entered. I have heard it doesn’t need to be re-entered. I have heard over 5000 name checks were sent to Guangzhou. But still, we have no visa, no answer, no hope and no one willing to help.Is it lost? Was it entered wrong? Was it re-entered? Is it in Guangzhou? Is it finished? If it is lost, what needs to be done to find it?If it has been entered wrong, what needs to be done to fix it?If it has been re-entered, when?If it is finished and in Guangzhou, how long has it been there? If it hasn’t been re-entered, why? And when will it be re-entered. Surely, you understand the pain my fiancée and myself has been through during this change in policy. While we still wait for the clearance, many waiting half the time we have, continue to be moved to the front of the line to receive their visas and be united with their loved ones. Is this fair?I do not think it would be fair, at this point, to get another form letter telling me still pending the name check. The name check should have been finished months ago, before more recent checks were completed.I would be very thankful if both CA and the Consulate in Guangzhou would look into our case and find the reason we have no visa. Thank you, Link to comment

Guest Yang and Ling
Mark, I am in total agreement with you. Sending individual letters is an important additional strategy to leverage the issue of visa delays. I faxed my letter over the weekend and I am including it with this post, in case anyone finds some elements useful: December 27, 2002 Ms. Maura Harty, Assistant SecretaryBureau of Consular AffairsDepartment of StateWashington, D.C. 20520 Dear Ms. Harty: The purpose of this letter is to inquire concerning the name-check, clearance status of my fiancée, xxxxxxx, case number GUZ xxxxxx. My I-129 Petition was approved on April 29, 2002 and her interview in Guangzhou on December 5, 2002 resulted in the approval of her K-1 Visa. I have called the Department of State’s Visa Information line several times hoping to learn more specific information beyond the proverbial phrase, “It is still pending.” After dozens of long-distance telephone disconnections and hours of time spent on hold, my only consolation has been two officers who have lamented being unable to provide additional information. In the past, I have e-mailed the US Consulate in Guangzhou for help in expediting this application stating issues of medical concern related to my family, and it appears that they responded empathetically by doing their part to process this application on a timely basis. However, with so many thousands of applications still pending from August, name-checks that have required multiple submissions, and the fact that newer batches of name checks are approved while others remain on hold, I have lost confidence in the process. I would be most appreciative if you could please look into my inquiry. Ms. Harty, this delay has been more than a mere inconvenience or complication of our lives. For many of us, it has added financial burdens compounding our emotional toll. As a Presbyterian minister, I am keenly aware of the fact that life is limited by time and all of us have only a limited number of days on earth. Please help us to spend as many of them as we can with those whom we love. Having said all of the above, I do want to thank you for your leadership during this time of transition with the mission and objectives of the Bureau of Consular Affairs, and especially with the task of securing the borders of our nation, while at the same time, helping to redress the problems of delayed visa clearances for the thousands of people waiting to be united with their loved ones. Thank you very much for your response to my inquiry. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Joseph xxxxxx I think that Maura Harty understands that every letter sent represents the sentiment of hundreds of others. So I encourage everyone to send personal letters! Link to comment
