Kroger to sell private label products in China through Alibaba

 

Kroger Co (KR.N) has partnered with Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (BABA.N) to sell its private label products on the e-commerce giant's Tmall platform in China, making its first venture outside the United States.

The U.S. grocer will sell its Simple Truth products on the online platform "to meet Chinese consumers' growing demand for high-quality, organic food products," an Alibaba spokesman told Reuters on Tuesday.

My wife is constantly shipping food products to her sister in Guilin, the other day when visiting the 99 Ranch market I noted the number of people packing and sending all sorts of food items to China, Kroger may have caught onto something and decided to do this on a larger scale using Alibaba as a platform.

It recently developed new products such as Simple Truth Organic sports drinks, Simple Truth Organic sparkling coconut waters, Simple Truth fruit and nut bars, and Simple Truth meatless entrees.
