MarcRosie
Hi, Hope all is well with everyone! We have 30 artists coming for a big exhibition in Newport News, VA. The question arose, do Chinese credit cards work in the USA with no issues? I feel they will but there will be some pretty good expenses that they will need to pay for individually and be reimbursed when they get back to China by the sponsors. Any experience with this by anyone? Thanks! Rosie and Marc
dnoblett
The major credit card network in China is UnionPay which has connection to several networks outside China especially Discover Card, so any merchant that accepts Discover card should be able to accept UnionPay cards. Randy W
These "alliances" seem to be falling apart in recent years. They may still be in place on paper, but the actual number of places they work seems to be declining. China's VISA is not the same as in the U.S. Here is a VERY recent (TODAY) memo about the use of China Union Pay cards in U.S. ATM's http://en.unionpay.com/news/newsroom/file_4847780.html now (Dec, 2018) at http://www.unionpayintl.com/en/mediaCenter/newsCenter/companyNews/2889.shtml Edited December 15, 2018 by Randy W (see edit history)

MarcRosie
Thanks for the information!! My wife believes that just because some of the people coming to the USA have a lot of money that it will be OK. I tried to explain to her that it wasn't about how much money anyone has. It's about what works with what credit card from China in the USA. Most of these people have never been to the USA. I'm just trying to make sure it's as seamless and painless as possible. I know I've had issues with US based cards in China. I anticipate there being some with people cards from China in the US. And especially since we'll be traveling up the east coast to DC and New York City.
