News: Got a Z Visa? You Can Now Skip Chinese Airport Lines

Foreigners can now use China's e-Channel Border Crossing Service

The headline says Z-visa and work permit, but then in the actual requirements, it says

A biometric passport (any passport with the microchip symbol in the front)
A valid visa with at least six months validity
Residence permit

Sorry, guys, but a Z-visa is only good for 30 days. Sounds like it's the RESIDENCE PERMIT that's required , and that it's for immigrations clearance (including Hong Kong and Nacau), NOT the airport security.

Foreigners can apply for this service at airport immigration points and at the Hong Kong-Mainland China border.

. . .

Applicants should ask for the e-Channel form from an immigration officer and fill it out accordingly. It is entirely in Chinese though . . . You'll also have to have your photograph taken, and your thumb prints scanned.

Once your registration has been successful, you will be able to use the e-Channel system immediately.
Scan your passport photo page at the receptacle
When the doors open, step through inside where your face and thumbprints will be scanned
Once the system has successfully recognized your details, the exit doors will automatically open

Here it is in China Briefing

Life in the Fast Lane: China e-Channel Border Crossing Service Extended to Foreigners

After successful registration, applicants will be able to use the e-channel the next day without further requirements, as information will be stored in the passport microchip.
