Chinese American restaurant owner who snatched 'fake' gun from robber was shocked to find it's real

A restaurant owner who snatched a gun from a robber was shocked when she later fired the weapon which she thought was fake, but turned out wasn’t.
Keqiu Wang, who runs Crazy Wings in Norfolk, Virginia, US with her husband Jiamde Lin, encountered the armed teenager on Sunday night.
Footage from the incident caught by surveillance camera shows Wang trying to take the gun from the young robber as he was putting the customer's money in his pocket. At that point, her husband came from the kitchen and chopped the robber's shoulder with a cleaver, leaving two deep wounds, the police said, while Wang managed to wrest the firearm from him.
After the robber fled the scene, Wang is seen firing the gun at the floor and is clearly shocked to discover the 9mm handgun is genuine.
The robber fled with the money but was later found and taken to a hospital. He has since been taken into custody on charges of robbery and use of a firearm in a felony.

According to Jack Ma, the fake may have been a better choice - in the WSJ

Jack Ma Says Fakes “Better Quality and Better Price Than the Real Names”

Much of the time, the same factory produces for big-name clients, then works overtime using the same equipment and materials to make similar products that they sell at discounts. There is a spectrum here ranging from full-on fakes – in which the products masquerade as genuine goods with an identical label – to copycat products that resemble the big-name item but are sold under a little-known brand.

Mr. Ma said that while these copycatters have always existed in China, the internet has made it easier for these Chinese producers to connect with customers and sell their products.

This is certainly true for smartphones.

. . .

In his speech, Mr. Ma was speaking about the inevitability of fakes due to “human instinct” and said Alibaba would continue fighting them, even calling Alibaba the world’s “leading fighter of the counterfeits.”

“Every fake product we sell, we are losing five customers,” he said. “We are the victims of that. We never stop fighting.”
