Ring around an apartment

LIVING here could drive you loopy – because these flats are completely encircled by a motorway.

The swirling ring road was built around the two tower blocks after some residents refused to move out to make way for bulldozers.

The pictures - which show the four-lane flyover in Guangdong Province, China – have gone viral in China.

The houses were set to be demolished to make space for a bridge connecting the city’s road network to a recently opened tunnel under the Pearl River.

Now they are known as “nail houses” - a term given to homes in China where a resident refuses to leave in order to make way for a new construction.

But when three homeowners refused to accept relocation compensation, the construction company decided to build around them.

The construction company has promised to surround the buildings with a noise barrier for the residents.
