Surveillance cameras in a supermarket captured a mother and daughter being knocked to the ground by a shopping cart while they were taking the elevator recently in Harbin. The mother, Xu, said later in an interview that she fainted right then, and her daughter’s face was covered in blood. The supermarket has refused to take responsibility and said that the shopping cart was carried by a young man, who ran away after the accident occurred. Police are looking for the young man and whether the supermarket should take responsibility.

I looked at Randy's video of the incident. Things might have been worse. It looked like the thing might have been in reverse for about 9-12 seconds. I would think that there should have been safety measure in place. One because the escalator ran away. It should have not been out of control for that long of a period. 3-4 sec maybe, before the control should shut things down. An article said something about smoke. Sound like some type of component failure.

 

A side note. We visited Bama this year. We were taking a look at some housing units for sale in a new development on the 5th floor. 5 or 6 of us got on the elevator to go back down to the first floor. The elevator stopped between floors on the way down. Scary!! We were stuck on that elevator for what seemed for hours ( probably was only 25-30 minues. Danb

Security camera footage has emerged from China of two people narrowly avoiding serious injury when an escalator at a metro station malfunctioned. In the clip, taken in the city of Suzhou, east China's Jiangsu Province on Thursday, two people are seen walking onto the escalator, only for the mechanism to malfunction almost immediately, sending several steps flying out of place. ‍
The pair just manage to run up the escalator to safety, narrowly avoiding serious injury.
In a similar incident in central China's Jingzhou City two years ago, a woman was killed after she stepped onto an escalator that suddenly gave way.
