Months after automaker Geely giddily announced that it was rolling out a line of taxis modeled after London's iconic black cabs, the company has now declared that the Shanghai taxis will actually be gold as to 'suit the city's image better'.

. . .

Operator Qiangsheng Taxi Company, Shanghai's largest taxi company, said that the first 50 cabs are expected to hit the streets during the National Day holiday.

. . .

The cabs will be more spacious, with two fixed seats facing two folding seats in the back and no front seat beside the driver to make room for luggage. The vehicles will will take bookings mainly through dispatch systems for disabled and elderly folk.

A local jewelry store here in Rochester has one, they acquired it as a gimmick for an advertisement, the gimmick "Take us to the finest jewelry store in NY". The jewelry store is in NY, just not the city.

I spotted it yesterday parked out in front of their store on Monroe Ave.

Now that is a classic commercial. Notice the "Twin Towers" in the background? So it must date back before 9/11
