How to Check Green Card Status

Recommended Posts

We arrived last week (1/13) with Detroit as the POE, Social Security Card was received yesterday and hoping my CNH's Green Card arrives before we depart on 2/4. We can't seem to check the production status on the USCIS dashboard site: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard.do not sure if this is because we filed DCF or we are using the incorrect number. Any advice would be appreciated...

1) Did you pay the immigrant fee to USCIS? http://www.uscis.gov/forms/uscis-immigrant-fee This needs to be payed to get the card.

2) You already have a temporary card good for 1 year, it is the I-551 notation on the visa, and the USCIS entry stamp in passport, this will allow travel next month without the card.

Note the line "Upon endorsement serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year", I-551 = Green-Card.

Dan - Yes, the green card fee was paid as soon as we received the visa. We are aware that the visa serves as a temporary green card, the Detroit immigration did an excellent job explaining that and even said it would be good for 2 years - not that we are going to try that.

My question is has anyone who has filled through DCF successfully checked their green card production status on the USCIS site.

Did the immigration fee site give you a USCIS case number, or have they sent you a letter with a case number on it? if so you may check status here: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard/CaseStatus.do

If not, you will need to wait for the card, production can take a couple weeks, to several months after arrival, this is why the I-551 stamp indicates valid for a year.

No, a new USCIS site does not provide a new case number upon payment and the receipt number is not 13 digits and does not work when entered. No letter received from USCIS as of yet. Same link in my original post.

We know the green card is not "necessary"; we're seeking to find its production status. Its not a big deal as we will be back to the States twice before final move from China in April. It would be beneficial to receive the card before we move so we can then change address as we don't want to do that until the card is received.

WHEW! Congratulations and welcome to the U.S. Quite a relief and sense of accomplishment, I'm sure.

Yeah, you're now in another 'sit back and wait while seemingly nothing happens' state.
