dnoblett
Here is an interesting one. Blundering Chinese officials were forced to cut a motorway in half to go around a block of flats after they accidentally erected the building in its proposed path then realised it would cost too much to relocate the tenants. Construction workers had to squeeze the eight-lane highway into four and subsequently left furious residents stuck in the middle of a busy road. They had just been moved from their previous homes to make way for a park so refused to move again unless they were heavily compensated. So the council decided to save a small fortune by leaving the flats in place. http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad334/dnoblett/Misc%20Junk%20for%20posting/article-2448694-1894FE2400000578-709_634x423_zps092d3ad3.jpg http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad334/dnoblett/Misc%20Junk%20for%20posting/article-2448694-1893B9BB00000578-909_634x423_zpsb531dacd.jpg More: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2448694/China-builds-new-flats-path-motorway.html Link to comment

dnoblett
Even if first buildings built there should have been a master plot plan with the highway indicated. Link to comment
danb
I wonder why they didn't do a jog left when they came to building. There seems to be more than enough room. How much more would that had cost them. I would think it would a lot less than building another apartment building. That road is in Xi'an city. Has anyone ever been there to visit the terra cotte warriors? Is there anything else that is interesting to do or visit in that area?Danb Link to comment

danb
Dan, thanks for the link and the suggestions. I have been out on similar sites recently but this is the first one that shows a map where the TC warriors are. Normally they just mention that they are outside of the city. About 36-37 kilometers away???? I am interested in the wall city part of Xian. Not 100% sure why but I am interested. Also some of the sites talk about Dumpling banquets. I wonder if that is worth the money. I am looking forward to our trip to Xi'an. Danb Link to comment

DanbYep, Xi'an is the only city becides Forbidden City that has a fully intact wall. http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad334/dnoblett/Misc%20Junk%20for%20posting/XianWall_zps14e337ba.jpg The blue line is the wall. I highly recommend China Highlights, they are reasonable for what they provide, and are very flexible, contact them directly or even ask the guide while on the tour, and they will make many adjustments. Their guides are fully fluent in English, I remember the girl in Xi'an, she acted like a proper school teacher, sometimes popping questions to see if you were listening. Yes, the Terracotta Warriors are about that far to the NE of the city. http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad334/dnoblett/Misc%20Junk%20for%20posting/xian2_zps0588dcc9.jpg Link to comment

danb
This is a little off topic but I wasn't sure where else to post it. I was checking out the link about Arnold Schwarzenegger. I saw another link. Actually I saw two. One on green cards on China. I took a look at that one. It had a photo of a foreigner's Chinese Green card. It also gave an explanation of the process in English. I was going to post that one in a post that had to do with Visa's. When I went to do that I realized that Randy had already done that. The second interesting link was about the first nude photographer in China. Here is a link: http://shanghaiist.com/2013/12/02/chinas_first_nude_photo_from_1928.php I thought the article was interesting for several reasons. 1. i was surprise that there was actually nudity. I didn't know that nudity was allowed on the Chinese internet. Even if it is done in a tasteful manner. 2. I was also surprise by Zhang father severe reaction to the photo. I wonder if Arnie "will be back." ...and will he show up in the buff!!! ( a reference to his nudie scene in one of the Terminator movies) Danb Link to comment
