Chan Yan, a former housewife, was mocked as a child for her uncanny resemblance to Mao Zedong, but has now gained notoriety for her day job of impersonating the former Communist Party chairman.

According to the SCMP:

The 57-year-old Sichuan native makes a living out of 40 minute-long silent performances, in which she switches between waving to the crowds like the Great Helmsman did at Tiananmen Square, smoking like the nicotine-addicted founder of the People’s Republic and staring solemnly into the distance, as if contemplating a bright future.

Chen, who once proved controversial as a female impersonator of Mao, now reportedly makes up to five figures for her appearances.

Unfortunately, however, Chen is now estranged from her husband, who reportedly "couldn't cope living with Mao".

According to a report by the mainland's People magazine, Chen rarely leaves her home anymore except to perform.
