Randy W
Some of us - Mick, Jesse, and myself - are having trouble with embedded videos showing as links, instead of the actual embedded video. As near as I can tell, this is due to Internet caching of some of the edit apps, and the time it takes to download these functions/apps - it is NOT due to anything you are doing "wrong" or differently from someone else. Jesse and I have slow/intermittent internet connections due to being behind the Great Firewall. Mick's apparently is just slow. When you want to embed a video, you simply need to WAIT for all of the editing apps (including the 'embedded video' app) to download. The rule of thumb I use to determine when this has happened is to click on the 'Size' (Font size) drop-down. If it doesn't drop-down, or drops down with no selectable font sizes, then the apps are not finished downloading. Once you see this, it seems to be safe to click on 'Save' and the video will embed properly. Look for numeric Font Size selections in the 'Size' dropdown before you click on 'Post' or 'Save': http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff367/walserrjw/Untitled-1_zpsa4e3a7f4.jpg Link to comment
Randy W
The 'Size' App and the embed video app, of course, are unrelated apps. This is simply a guideline I use for knowing when the apps have finished downloading. My guess is that this has to do with the IPB servers and Internet caching (NOT your browser cache). IPB (Invision Power Board) is the forum software that CFL uses. Edited October 2, 2013 by Randy W (see edit history) Link to comment
Mick
It's all mumbo jumbo to me, Randy, as I am a Luddite from the 19th century. I will follow your instructions and hope it helps. We pay a small fortune for our internet package, so it shouldn't so slow. However, we have Mediacom and consistently have problems of one kind or another. And it is the only game in town out here where we live. Again, thanks for the info. Link to comment
dnoblett
Place media tags before and after the video link: http://youtu.be/Jem-JGt2g-k Works with YouTube, YouKu, Vimeo, and a few others. Link to comment

But it won't work if the media app is not loaded at the time the post is saved - it will be replaced by a link to the video instead. Mick, Jesse, and I seem to be the only ones having this problem Link to comment
dnoblett
Interesting, I have used the media tags many times when posting from my mobile phone using the mobile browser in the stripped down mobile skin, which I believe uses a very basic editor. Link to comment

Point is that nobody needs to feel like they're doing something wrong, or that they need to try different things that work for someone else. The board automatically recognizes media links, and replaces them with the embedded video. It does this with many different formats, as long as the media app is loaded at the time the post is saved. As far as I know, we're the only three who have the problem. It is caused by a slow server response. Link to comment
Mick
Randy, I tried the trick with the font drop down on a post over in the nam nut thread, but still no luck. Things same as before. Link to comment
Randy W
Randy, I tried the trick with the font drop down on a post over in the nam nut thread, but still no luck. Things same as before. . . . and I fixed it without changing a thing in your post, except to unlink the link. So I'd say it's definitely not anything that you're doing wrong or should do differently. Just one a dem 'nomalies. It seems to be behaving extra special good for me now that I'm watching it - can't get it to fail. Link to comment
