Thomas Promise
68 years ago today the Allies landed on Normandy Beach. This battle helped pave the way for Nazi Germany's defeat in May 1945. It was the largest seaborne invasion in history. It changed the world we live in today. The brave men and woman who fought and served in World War 2 are my true heroes in my life. To all the GIs, the Kilroy was here guys and Rosie the Riverters Thank You! http://www.army.mil/d-day/ Link to comment

warpedbored
Tom Brokaw called them "The Greatest Generation" I believe he is right. My parents grew up during The Great Depression. My father walked across Italy with a Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR). He received two purple hearts, a bronze star and I don't know what else. He would never talk about the combat. He would tell us funny stories about good times but never the fighting. Link to comment
knloregon
Great post Carl, your father obviously protected you from the events that won him honor, but were too horrible to relate. good example of the Greatest Generation. Link to comment
