Working on a family based greencard

If one were trying to work on a work visa, I assume there is more paperwork than normal.

But for our spouses to work on a family based visa, is there really anything extra needed? Meaning, if a company hired a USC vs a family based greencard holder, is there really anything different from an office paperwork point of view which has to be done?

Nothing different at all, employers just need two things:

  • Evidence of eligibility to work. Green-card, passport with I-551 notification.
  • SSN

Other combinations:

  • SSN showing the restriction (K-1 SSN) would need EAD, Green-card, or passport with I-551 notation.
  • SSN without restriction notation, simply a government issued photo ID such as a Driver's License, US Passport, naturalization cert, or green-card
