dan1984 Posted March 20, 2012 Report Share Posted March 20, 2012 Well, I'm finishing up some work and then in a couple hours JianWen and I will be headed to the Beijing train station. First a 20 hour ride to Lanzhou, where we will then rest for about 3 hours, before getting on a 12 hour train to Dunhuang. After a couple days in Dunhuang, it's back on the train to Lanzhou, where we will see a friends band, and stay with them for a few days, as 2 of the band members are from Lanzhou. I'm looking forward to Lanzhou, but I can't wait to get to Dunhuang and spend a few days visiting Silk Road passes, the sand dunes, the cave with all the Buddhist paintings, etc. Looking forward to it! Mick Posted March 22, 2012 Report Share Posted March 22, 2012 Looks like a great trip, Dan. Don't envy all that train time, but the places you are visiting are very special. Danhuang and the caves are incredible and hopefully you will get to hear the "singing sand." In addition to the Buddhist paintings in the caves, this is also the place where the Jesus Sutras were found, giving evidence of Nestorians in the area at a very early date. They were the first Christians in China, but because they were considered heretics, you rarely hear much about them. Should be a great trip...
