chilton747
Are there any customs procedures in Canada while transferring planes from China to the US? Trying to get an idea of how long a connection time needed.
dnoblett
Transferring through Canada is not a problem for US Citizens and US Green-card Holders. HOWEVER can be a problem for first time immigrants if transit through Canada takes more than 24 hours, also restricted to specific flights, Canadian airports and airlines, cannot visit Canada without Canadian visa... Visa required, except for Nationals of China (People's Rep.) holding confirmed onward tickets transiting on the same calendar day (SEE NOTE 43594) (SEE NOTE 43595) and: holding a valid US visa (SEE NOTE 39687); andtraveling on a direct flight from Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Manila or Taipei and connecting on a flight to the USA; http://www.timaticwe...ubuser=DELTAB2C (China Citizen, only a US Visa, no green-card)http://www.timaticwe...ubuser=DELTAB2C (China citizen, Green-Card holder, NO Canada visa needed for visit up to 6 months)http://www.timaticwe...ubuser=DELTAB2C (USA Citizen, NO Visa required) Oh, One more note, Canada is Unique in a way, the airport in Canada IS a US Preclearance POE location, you will clear US Customs in Canada before boarding onward flight to the USA, so if on an immigrant visa, this should be where the immigrations envelope should be turned in, flight from Canada to the USA is treated as a domestic flight. http://www.cbp.gov/x...r_locations.xml For example: http://www.visajourn...ost__p__5088503 Edited March 11, 2012 by dnoblett (see edit history)
warpedbored
A few years ago a Chinese woman I know here in Portland went to China on AP before getting her green card. On her return flight she had a stop in Vancouver BC. They wouldn't let her board the plane in Hong Kong because she didn't have a green card or a transit visa.
