Thomas Promise
Today make 50 years that John Glenn became the 1st American to orbit the Earth. I can remember that we where allowed to bring portable TV"s that then weighed a ton with their metal cases to school to watch the event. John Glenn is still with us living with God's Speed. http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=john+glenn's+orbit+god's+speed+youtube&mid=DC31934C612DE3633096DC31934C612DE3633096&view=detail&FORM=VIRE1 Link to comment
dnoblett
Past week or so has been John Glen fever at the Cape, and on NASA.Gov. http://www.facebook.com/NASAhttp://www.facebook.com/NASAOrion http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/624050main_image_2178_946-710.jpg Revisiting Discovery. http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/imagegallery/image_feature_2178.html http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/glenn50/ Glen's first mission was before my time, earliest memories for me was Skylab, and the Apollo Soyuz mission. I did think Glen getting to make that trip up in Discovery was cool, it was a logical choice to test space travel effects on older people, it made sense to pick Glen because he had his Mercury experience. Thomas Promise
I can recall when Glenn was in contention for the nomination for President in the 1976 election. One of the Republican hopefuls was Ronald Reagan and was ask about Glenn. Reagan's quick wit stated that Glenn was a good fellow but as a Senator for the past 10 years tell me what on Earth has he done. Link to comment
