I-865, sending it in late

Hi,

 

I am mailing this form in a couple days late (the instructions say within 30 days). I would like to know if I need to add a note in there? I didn't do my homework very well and didn't know I needed to fill the I-865 out, since my hubby filled the AR-11 out already. Do you think it will be okay to send with just the I-865, or should I attach an explanation? Thank you.

Is fine to mail it late, I have yet to see anyone post about any problems with this.

 

The I-865 must be the most overlooked form in the whole process, most understand that an Alien Resident needs to keep immigrations up to date as to where they are living, however it is very common for sponsors to be unaware to the fact that they too need to keep immigrations updated as to their address at least until the sponsored alien no longer needs to be sponsored.

 

I-865 reporting ends when:

• Sponsored alien becomes a US Citizen
• Sponsored alien works and is credited with 40 quarters of work per SSA
• Sponsored alien leaves USA and gives up residency status.
• Sponsored alien dies
• Sponsor dies

Anyway file the I-865 ASAP, no need to explain why it was filed late.
