AmyAndDoug
Hi all, I'm wondering how long it generally takes from the I-751 application to the receipt of 10-yr green card. We had just mailed out my I-751 application last week and the check was cashed this week. I'm hoping to get the receipt notice soon. However, I need to travel back to China for an emergency in mid January. And I'm not sure what to do since my 2-yr green card expires on Jan. 6, 2011. Will I be able to come back to the U.S. still? Please share similar experiences. Thanks a lot and happy Thanksgiving! Link to comment
dnoblett
The I-751 receipt letter extends the green card validity fo a year beyond expiration. You carry card and letter when traveling. There have been reports that sometimes have problems leaving China with letter and expired card, so it is a good idea to do an info pass appointment to your field office and request an I-551 stamp in your passport, to avoid travel problems.
