How long can she delay her first trip to the US before the visa expires? Step One - LOOK at the Visa Step Two - Read what it says. The expiration date is the LAST day that she can use the visa. It should show 6 months after the date the visa was issued. If CR/IR-1 or K-3, she can take a trip to the US, and then immediately return to China. Multiple entries are allowed for two years (more if IR-1) Link to comment

Her sister's injuries are serious and my wife will need to care for her. I just want to get a feel for the visa expiration time lines. Link to comment

What Randy is trying to say is don't worry. After you get the Visa, look at the expire date. If the expire date gets close, pick 4 days she can travel, and have her fly round trip china-usa-china.So long as she enters and exits USA, then her CR/1 is activated and she can then continue to care for her sister. After sister is recovered she can come back into the USA with no issues. (of course if she is taking care of her sister for 2 years, then there are going to be removal of condition issues, but that is presumed) Link to comment

dnoblett
Note CR-1 or IR-1 visa tends to be valid 6 months, upon entry to the USA, the passport will be stamped I-551, the I-551 stamp = Green-Card which allows re-entries from trips abroad. Also note, questions may be asked if second entry is more than 6 months after returning home after using the visa. And periods of absence from the USA longer than 1 year but less than 2 years requires a re-entry permit to be applied for by filing an I-131 to USCIS. Link to comment
