timb
Watched an interesting show about interpretations of ancient cultures and how some believe some figures from different cultures were thought to be gods and such. One such person was Huang-Di, also known as the Yellow Emperor. Huang-di info They described in the show that people of those times didn't know how to articulate words like spaceship, and such, so they used words like Bird or Dragon. Legend has it that Huang-Di was thought to come from a Flying "Dragon" and after his 100 year rule, a flying dragon came from the heavens and took him away" They imply that Huang-di was actually of alien origin. Somewhat interesting theory. Link to comment
david_dawei
There is plenty of fable to shroud out any fact... but that theory is a bit extreme. Because his time, and that preceding him is too primitive for writing, little exists other than folklore. Written history, from past down stories relates the following: Huang Di lived during the period of the ¡°Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors¡± (San Huang Wu Di, Èý»ÊÎåµÛ); He was the first emperor (before the idea of emperors) who lived roughly from 2700-2600 BC. He had 25 sons, of which 14 where sons who choose to share 12 surnames. Hardly any of the ancient surnames are in use today but their character contained a female radical; suggesting a turning point from matriarchal societies. Prior to Huang Di was the rise of the totem tribes believed to be have ¡®regional existence¡¯ which converged on the Yellow River area (historically, the cradle of chinese civilization). These tribes rose in strength and three dominant clans arose: The Huang tribe, the Yan tribe, and the Li tribe. The Li tribe was fierce and thought to usher in newer weapons of war (Koreans acknowledge the Li leader, Chi You, as an ethnic ancestor). Huang Di (Yellow Emperor) and Yan Di (Fire Emperor) are thought to come from the same [Jiang--along the Jiang River] clan and be ¡®sworn¡¯ brothers. The phrase ¡®Yan Huang Zi Sun¡¯ (Ñ×üS×ÓŒO) means descendents of Yan and Huang. The Huang tribe (and their alliance clans) defeated the Yan tribe at the Battle of Banquan (last of three battles) forming the HuaXia tribe (later to be the Xia Dynasty founders). This larger alliance defeated the Li tribe (Jiu Li, 9 alliances of Li) in the Battle of Zhuolu. Soon most of the tribes came to recognize Huang Di as the central plains leader. It has been speculated that as a tribe conquered another they would take on some part of that trible's totem; in the end, Huang Di, original a bear totem is thought to have parts of many animals which is how a dragon appears in ancient times. The ¡°yellow¡± (of Yellow Emperor) was ascribed for his contributions to agriculture and thus this became the latter imperial color. Everything from writing to medicine is attributed to arising from his rule; including the discovery of tea, silkworms (for silk) and weaving, the latter two are attributed to his wife. It is said a yellow dragon came down from heaven and returned with him. A small town just north of Xian in Shaanxi province is said to have his remains in the ¡°Huang Tomb¡±. Link to comment
