My situation may be a little different than others. I am a US citizen working at an American company in Shanghai (for about 7 years). My fiance is from Shanghai and has a decent job, etc. While we will get married in December (in Shanghai), I have no intention of ever moving back to the US. I will continue to work in Shanghai (and wherever my company transfers me to in Asia) permanently. I have a contract for a minimum of 2 more years I can show the embassy and she can show strong ties to China

My question is related to the type of visa she needs (or can get). We only intend on visiting family in April for 2 WEEKS. A B2 visa should be appropriate, correct? The fiance visa assumes she intends on living in the US. I'm a little confused. Again, haven't lived in the US for 7 years and don't plan on moving back there anytime soon.

First off welcome to CFL.

Kyle an active member on the board had a similar situation.

PM Kyle if you have any questions, he will help you out.

Keep in mind at this very moment he and his wife are in the process of moving to the USA.

Yes, the B2 visa would be the correct one. It would also be possible to get one within the time frame.

The fiance visa would allow you to do what you want, but its stated purpose is to get married in the US. It would also require a minimum of 4 months to a year to get.

The success rate on the B2 visas is fairly low, however, but your circumstances may help.
