Stepbrow
It appears that China is changing its strategy regarding Tibet. They will be increasing development in the surrounding provinces that experienced protest in the past. It appears that the strategy is to get the populous to become more concerned about making money than they are about their cultural heritage. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100123/ap_on_.../as_china_tibet Link to comment

Growing stronger financially has great benefits, as the Tibetan population will become less reliant on Hollywood and become more capable of producing success for themselves and their fellow countrymen of China. It seems like, with the demonstrations last year and all, that the Tibetans would like to use their own definition of success, and not the Chinese one. Also maybe the Tibetans don't consider themselves "fellow countrymen" of the Han Chinese. After all they were an independent country only eight hundred years ago, and had regained their independence in 1912 to 1959. Link to comment

The "independence of Tibet is a Western concept sensationalized by Hollywood and some wings of the foreign media. China has no plans to suppress the ethnic culture of this marvelous place and people, and is working hard to help them realize a better life. Link to comment
