Guest Tony n Terrific
Eight youths were killed and 26 injured when students descending a crowded staircase after evening classes at a school in central China lost their footing amid a crush of bodies, state media and the local government reported Tuesday. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091208/ap_on_...school_stampede Link to comment
Kyle
It's unfortunate, but not surprising to me. A similar instance resulting in injury occurred a few years back in Wuhan. After the bell rang, I used to wait five minutes to let the stampede die down. Schools here for the most part are extremely overcrowded thus not laid-out well. knloregon
"....Such schools tend to have large class sizes but few emergency exits or other safety features. In addition to regular daytime classes, most feature evening revision sessions that are a standard requirement for advancement in China's grueling, exam-centered education system...." Yeah, thats the ticket... Christopher Bodeen, the AP's 'Old China Hand' continues in his 'objective' tradition of reporting the news from China..... (as if--- this tragic story is really about: "China's grueling, exam-centered education system....") Link to comment

Now imagine the scenario featured in the article if all the nose-picking human rights monkey freaks had their way and China abolished the one-child-policy. Link to comment
knloregon
Never thought I'd see the day--- -----some editor (either at the AP, or the The Oregonian) actually edited out the irrelevant section from Bodeen's story before print in today's Oregonian (pg. A-11 for local CLers ) Link to comment
Joanne
I hope the schools from China pay more attention to how to regulate the student flow in the staircases. Should avoid situations that everyone has to be at the same place at the same time. Link to comment
