I live in Ohio and we are ranked 47th for well being and happiness.

A survey called the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index reveals which states are happiest. The index includes questions about six types of well-being, including overall evaluation of their lives, emotional health, physical health, healthy behaviors (such as whether a person smokes or exercises), and job satisfaction.

Here are the 50 U.S. states in order of their well-being scores, which are out of 100 points.

Rock on, Missouri! Guess they didn't factor in BBQ, but instead counted the KC Royals as having a negative effect, emotional health-wise.

Seems like the happiest states are in the West and in the Northeast. The Midwest and South didn't fare too well (except Minnesota).

We Texans are doing okay at 21st; we'd be happier though if everyone simply realized and admitted our superiority in all things, so we could stop having to remind y'all all the time!

BULL! This is a big cover-up so people don't find out that, West Virginia is the happiest place on earth...but Utah is sure the most beautiful with nicest Christian people.

Oregon at 18, should have been better but we are pretty happy out here in the great northwest. Everything is green and beautiful, lots of lake rivers mountains and the deep blue sea. Being a blue state is just a plus.

Since leaving Missouri at age 8.5, I've lived almost all my life in:

#2 (Hawaii), #7 (Washington), #12 (Montana), and #21 (Texas).

I'm hoping to get assigned to Colorado (#4) next, and hope to have my post-retirement mainland home there.

Colorado is nice.

Alot of Cali transplants there now who have brought their "special" beliefs with them. But you get out of the cities its good.
