When we came through the POE they took all paperwork and told her that the visa in her passport was her ID card. Is that all we need to get Hong her SSN?

Yes passport with an I-551 stamp, birth cert, and marriage cert, and another form of ID needed when applying for SSN.

 

Note wait at least 2 weeks after entry to the USA before applying.

 

To apply for a Social Security number:

• Complete an Application For A Social Security Card (Form SS-5); and
   
  
• Show us documents proving:
  • Immigration status; (I-551 stamp)
     
    
  • Work eligibility; (I-551 stamp)
     
    
  • Age; and (Birth Cert, Passport)
     
    
  • Identity. (Passport)
    

  [*] Take your completed application and original documents to your local Social Security office .

You were lucky, it typically take 2 weeks for USCIS to update the database used by SSA to confirm immigrations status.

We waited the two weeks, and wife received hers in the mail one week after applying
