Drunk-Driving Death Sentence

Recommended Posts

But as Hong points out, death and driving in China are not uncommon associates..

My wife's brother was killed on the road, and her sister and niece were involved in a fatal accident last summer from which--her sister has not yet recovered.

If you go back to the time in the US---(1960's) when the interstate was first built, and before the wide use of seat belts ---there was carnage on America's highways. Even thought we have more population now, there is less carnage.. its a societal evolution. Mr. Sun, unfortunately, is going to be an example---because there are so many drivers in China now, some may learn by his example, but its not justice for Mr. Sun...

But Jun, Kunming is NOT a got example of driving in China, since its a modern city, for the most part, and laid out in a very orderly manner with very wide main thoroughfares.. Its when you try to apply order to narrow streets in old cities with large populations, with convoluted streets that order breaks down in China.

Urkidding - wow - the death penalty.

Back in 2002, I knew of someone high up in the Chinese Army that had a similar 'accident', and simply 'paid off' everyone with little police involvement.

Glad to see times are a changing !

This does seem to mean some change on this issue is happening in China. See China Daily article on the same death sentence.

However what you describe will continue to happen in China, just as it does in the USA, because the rich and powerful will always be able to buy their way out of problem most times.
